Prepping Cloth Diapers

Screen Shot 2015-06-21 at 7.56.14 PMYou know what they say.. for every cloth diaper, there’s the perfect accessory. Alright, maybe the saying is a bit different, but either way, it’s true! With the right accessory, like cloth wipes, you can use cloth diapers more effectively.

Cloth wipes share the same benefits of cloth diapers — they’re reusable, economical, environmentally friendly, and free of harmful chemicals. One of the main reasons people choose cloth diapers is to save money. And when you use cloth wipes in addition to cloth diapers, you can save even more! Sure, wipes may be a small expense compared to some of the bigger items babies need like strollers and high chairs, but every little bit counts, right? Especially when those savings equate to a Tula Baby Carrier or Petunia Pickle Bottom Diaper Bag.

So how do you decide if you should use cloth wipes? The real question is why not? Cloth wipes just make sense and require no extra work if you’re already cloth diapering your baby. Here’s why you should use cloth wipes:

  • You wash your cloth diapers every other day. Cloth wipes also need to be washed every other day, if soiled, so make it easy on yourself and clean everything together. Just roll that dirty wipe into your cloth diaper and toss it in your pail or wet bag until laundry day. No extra steps needed 🙂 Just be cautious when washing wipes with cloth diapers that have hook and loop closures. The natural fibers of the wipes are more likely to stick to the tabs.

Wipe solutions are SUPER easy to make and give you more peace of mind. But if making a wipe solution isn’t your thing or you don’t have the time, simply moisten your wipes with water or use bumGenius Bottom Cleaner. Just spray bumGenius Bottom Cleaner directly on your baby’s bum and wipe. This gentle formula is 100-percent natural and soothes sore skin. If you do use a premade mix  and store your wipes in a warmer, only keep them in there for two days max to prevent mold.

  • You’re going to have to change a crazy diaper blow up at one point or another. Unlike flimsy disposables, cloth wipes are hefty and generously sized. One wipe can be re-folded and survive multiple swipes across a dirty bum before throwing into your pail or wet bag. Plus, they never rip and are sufficiently thick.
  • Just like cloth diapers, you will never run out of wipes and have to run to the store at 2am for more. We recommend keeping at least 24 on hand, or enough to get you through a day and a half’s worth of diaper changes.
  • Done with diapers? Your wipes will still come in handy! Keep them in your diaper bag to wipe runny noises or clean messes on the go.

Do you use cloth wipes? If so, tell us some of your favorite reasons why you do!
