Real Mom Talk: Christmas Crafts
December 23, 2022 12:35 pm | by

My kids and I decided to make homemade Christmas ornaments using salt dough this year. We haven’t done this before, and I really wanted to start doing things that I’ll be able to keep and look at years from now. Are you wondering how to make great salt dough? All you’ll need is flour, salt, water, a rolling pin, and cookie cutters. Then, if you want to paint your ornaments (we did!), then you’ll also need some paint and paintbrushes. We also made our ornaments scented, although after painting them, they weren’t scented anymore but it was fun while rolling

Tips for making a sensory box for your toddler.

Have you ever cleaned up after Christmas morning or a birthday party and find that your child is more drawn to the box a toy came in rather than the expensive toy itself? Sure, some of the expensive toys turn out to be amazing, enriching and entertaining, but sometimes it’s the most simple items that really captivate children and their imaginations. Our Parents as Teachers educator always has amazing ideas for toys made out of items from around the house. One of our favorite suggestions is a sensory box. We made it mostly from items we already had, and it

Homemade Sweet Cheeks Bottom Powder
January 20, 2017 8:00 am | by

That perfect little bottom wrapped up in a super cute cloth diaper is such a sweet sight. Sometimes, that sweet little bottom gets a rash. Thankfully, we can make a natural bottom powder that is healing, safe, and smells delightful! It’s a good alternative to oils and creams you shouldn’t use on cloth diapers, and perfect for making yourself at home. This Sweet Cheeks Bottom Powder has just 3 ingredients: bentonite clay arrowroot powder lavender bud powder (or Rose powder, if you would prefer) I like to buy my ingredients from Mountain Rose Herbs or the Bulk Herb Store. I have

Real Mom Talk: DIY Halloween Costume
October 24, 2015 9:11 pm | by

I love Halloween! Actually, I just love dressing up and being someone else for a day. Long before I had my daughter, I had a collection of future baby Halloween costume ideas. However, the DIY daddy costume wasn’t on that list, but this is something I’d strongly consider if you’re looking for something quick and easy! My baby would look EXACTLY like my husband, so of course, I had to take advantage of the opportunity because I don’t know how long this strong resemblance will last. I decided to take the most recognizable features of Lola’s dad and create a look that everyone would

Real Mom Talk: Halloween Costumes, DIY-Style!
October 13, 2014 7:02 pm | by

The spooky season is upon us! And one way to make Halloween extra fun is to create costumes with your kids! I’ve made most of my kids’ costumes over the past 6 years. One thing that has kept the tradition going is that my kids have so much fun with it. They love coming up with their own ideas for costumes. We also try to stay away from the scary stuff, which leaves a lot of room for creativity and their own personal interests. My oldest son has been a scarecrow, a cowboy, the Alphabet Tree from Chicka-Chicka-Boom-Boom, the letter
