Indian Prefold Cloth Diapers Reviews (88) Write Review Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Brooke on Sunday 29 August, 2010I was new to cloth diapering but decided on these prefolds after doing much research about diapering options. Not only are they cheaper but it really isn't that hard at all to fold into a cover. I started cloth diapering my son when he was 20 months old. I hoped it would encourage him to potty train. Very late start but better late then never. I am expecting a little girl next month and ordered all the prefolds she will need. I'm very excited to use them on her with my size one Thirsties Duo Wraps!
These are so absorbent and I love that they are unbleached! Better for my son's skin and will last longer then bleached cotton. When I received them I washed them 5 or 6 times then used them for my 20 month old boy and they were good to go. I pair them with some hemp doublers at night and a size two Thirsties Duo Wrap and it has always worked very well. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Jill on Thursday 26 August, 2010 You'll get the most for your money with these!!! I orded a dozen in infant size because I wanted to have nice natural looking/feeling burp cloths. They were great for this, but now we've found an even better use: as an insert for the Flip cover. These work awesome!!! Infant size works perfect at the medium rise setting in a flip. I trifold them but then spread the corners out to the front and back corners of the pockets of the flip. Then they kind of make their own gussets if you position them right through the crotch (hope that makes sense) This makes for a smooth look under the flip cover so you don't see this big rectangle on your baby's bottom and the poo is usually kept off the cover. Regular size works fine as in insert at the large or medium setting if you fold them down. After a month of heavy use they are better than ever, so fluffy and soft.
I really recommend cotton for diapering. It is easy to wash and care for. You are much less likely to encounter the pitfalls of repellancy and compression leakage is not an issue. These are still like new, they absorb well and are going to be ready for the next little guy! It was worth every penny. For about $25 I got enough prefolds for two children! Rating: [4 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Felicia on Monday 09 August, 2010 i bought these in both premie and infant sized. the premie size is really small but they were great when my baby was only a few weeks old and now i use them as inserts for her other cloth diapers. they shrink up alot after you wash and dry them a few times and they are very absorbent for how thin they are. the only draw back to any prefold is that poop leaks out the sides and into the covers but hey thats what the covers are for, and you can't beat the price on these, even if you only buy them to use as inserts, they are great. in relation to a previous poster: I could see how they might be narrow if you are not used to letting out some of the front cloth to pin, but I cannot imagine then being to narrow otherwise. I bought prefolds from several different sites to try out all the options and these are the best. They quilt up really well and stay very soft. On my chunky 4 month old, I tri-fold the infant prefolds into FLIP or Duo sz 1 covers. The regular prefolds get folded down in the back and Snappi'd in the front, since they're still a tad big. Expect a decent amount of shrinkage. Rating: [4 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Wan-Nei on Wednesday 23 June, 2010 I started cloth diapering with BG one sizes when my son was born. My stash consisted entirely of them until I was surprised by my new daughter, a 5 pound preemie who swam in the BGs.
I really hated using disposables. After spending $40 for disposables the first 3 weeks I decided to go ahead and give these prefolds a try. I am surprised by how much I like these. They're not as convenient as my BGs but they are very trim, soft (much softer than the chinese prefolds I also have) and the huge variety of covers to choose from makes them very fun. The Thirsties duo wrap snap is my favorite so far.
BGs are still my first love but I like these enough that I'm back to buy them in bigger sizes. They are great as a backup when my regular stash is in the wash and because they are so compact, I keep a few in the car as backups as well. I chose free shipping and today UPS already dropped them off. I am prepping them now and cannot wait to use them. I have some IPF in use right now but I don't think they were cotton babies ... Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Cassandra on Sunday 23 May, 2010 These are sooo much better than the unbleached Chinese prefolds! I love these. I bought a bunch of these and the unbleached Chinese pfs 2 years ago for my son. These have held up just as well as the others. I actually bought BG 3.0's and these to while those are washing. I always reach for Indian pfs before any other pf. They are so much softer and are actually a little wider than the Chinese pf. I think they're only about an inch wider, but that 1 inch makes a huge difference in how long your baby will be able to wear them, especially if you have a chunky baby. My son was a pretty skinny baby and used the infant size for quite a while. Now that I'm using them on my daughter, she's not even 4 months and I can't use the infant Chinese pfs on her because she's chunky. But I'm still using these ones in infant and they fit great. I don't have any signs of the stitching coming undone, no pilling, or tears. They wash up great. In fact, non of these have any stains on them at all, but the Chinese pfs do. Both kids were/are exclusively breastfed. Plus, the great price, what more could you want. I am very happy with them and plan on buying more! Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Charlotte on Monday 22 March, 2010 I love these, a very economical way to diaper. I ordered the premie as well as infants, because my previous child was on the small side and thought baby #2 would be small, but we couldn't fasten them around our 7lb 6oz baby. The infants were a bit too much cloth for us newbies to deal with though, so we ordered some GMD newborn prefolds and that got us through the first months of CDing until he fit in the infants and we got the hang of pinning and snappying a wriggily baby.
These get softer with every wash, don't hold stains, and are a great price. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Tracy on Sunday 21 March, 2010 I bought the infant size hoping they would fit into my Flip covers better for my one month old (9lbs13oz) and they fit perfectly with small setting on the Flip. I only washed once and dried them once before putting one on my son overnight (with a piece of alova suedecloth on top to keep him feeling dry) and we made it thru the night with no leaks! Not fully prepped prefold+overnight=no leaks!!!! FYI: I used the angel wing fold tucked into the flaps on the cover (not pinned or snappied). Now we'll see if the same fold will keep the poo in :) I'm only on my third day of cloth diapering, but this newbie is loving it!!! Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Bethany on Tuesday 16 March, 2010 I decided to buy these on the Premium size when my size month old started growing out of the Infant Size Chinese Prefolds. They really are softer and more absorbent than the Chinese Prefolds. They are the backbone of our daytime diapering. They are a little bulky compared to the infant size but she is growing into them fast. I primarily use them with Thirsties and Thirsties Duo covers with a Snappi. Now they she is on solid foods, the poo hardly ever gets on the cover unless she has prunes. A wonderful, affordable option for daytime diapering. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Carolina on Saturday 27 February, 2010 These will last forever! They are very well made and so absorbant. I got the unbleached infant size for trifolding in a cover before my baby was born. She has wore them from birth and at over 19 lbs, though they can't be pinned or snappied, they are still absorbing plenty and are perfect just laid in a diaper cover. They really seem to absorb more now than 3 months ago! At first, the longer length was a little annoying, but not for long as she was almost 10lbs at birth. I probably would not go for these in the bigger size because of the length vs width issue, but the infants are great and I will be using them indefinitely! Rating: [4 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Sharon on Thursday 18 February, 2010 These prefolds are soft, absorbent, affordable, and easy to clean. My only complaint is with the sizing...like others, I've found the premiums to be too narrow. They were several inches too long on my 17 month old girlie, but barely wide enough to pin or snappi around her hips. For me, the answer was trimming these to size (with a serger) and using them as inserts (trifolded) in the new Flip covers...I love using them this way and will continue to buy these prefolds and lay them in covers...but if you're looking for a prefold to use with a snappi on a toddler, you may want to look around for one with different dimensions. Rating: [3 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Leah on Sunday 14 February, 2010 These diapers are very soft and absorbent. I'm sure that they would last through many babies. I prefer these over the Chinese prefolds.
I purchased these in 2 sizes - preemie and infant. When I brought my daughter home from the hospital, she was 5 lbs 4 oz, and the preemie size was perfect. I paired them with a newborn Prowrap cover. They fit her until she was 8 pounds. Now that she has outgrown them, I can save them to use later as a doubler.
My daughter is currently in the infant size. She is a bit over 9 pounds. She is slender, but I do have trouble pinning these diapers on her. Although I have never used a Snappi, I'd imagine that they may work. I currently just fold them up into a Thirsties diaper cover, but I really wish that these diapers were wider. My daughter gets diaper rash very easily, and I wish I could sometimes let her wear one of these without a cover as I did with my first two children. Rating: [4 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Christina on Thursday 11 February, 2010 I love the quality of these prefolds! They are the only ones I have ever used and love how soft and absorbent they are! They are very well made and look like they will last a while! I, like several other reviewers, have found these to be a bit narrow though. I measured my washed (around 6 times in hot & dried in hot) prefolds so you could have a reference for how narrow they are compaired to other prefolds on the market. I have the premium and they are 13 1/2" x 20". These have been wonderful to use to boost my stash on a budget! My only complaint is the width. When I use these on my 32 lb. 2 yr. old, they barely reach around his hips at all (he's not really chunky either) and the snappi has to be stretched as far as it will go to hold it on him (even the toddler snappi). I realize the description says up to 30 lbs., I was just hoping the extra 2 lbs. wouldn't make a difference. I will continue to use these for my 24 lb. 1 yr. old but will be purchasing the toddler size from GMD to use on my 2 yr. old. They are quite narrow for my 1 yr. old (he not a large baby) too, but work well enough to not replace. Also, to the reviewer who mentioned the premium is only 1" longer then the regular: while this is true, please note that the regular is also thinner then the premium. It's only 4x6x4 vs. the 4x8x4 thickness of the premium. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Shayla on Monday 11 January, 2010 Great diapers for the money! The newborn/preemie size never came close to fitting my 7lb baby, so we just used them as inserts. The infant size is perfect for him now, though I wish they were a little wider. Use this with a CB stay-dry liner and almost any cover, and you have a great diapering system for the daytime. They wash up great and stains/smells disappear in the sunlight. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by rebecca on Friday 08 January, 2010 These are really soft and I really like them. I use them when all my bamboo fitteds are dirty. The only problem ive had is the infant size doesn't come around and overlap hardly at all on my 9 lb baby, but I got that size because I didnt want to have to fold down a huge chunk in the front. I use a snappi and they do the job but pins would probably be near impossible for me with this fit. Looks like I will be investing in a few of the next size up and just deal with the bulk when I have to. Defenitely try them! Those Gerbers, while functional, are still stiff and scratchy after the same prewashing, and they pilled from the 6 washes! The Indian (and Chinese that I bought here as well) prefolds all washed up so nicely, especially in comparison. First of all, even unwashed, these are leaps and bounds smoother and softer than the cheap gauze weave diapers I have here at home. Second, the quality is very obviously above what you can get at your average discount store -- the fabric is thicker and tighter, and even feels heavier. I can't wait to wash them. If they get even softer after the prewash phase, I can't imagine how soft they'll be on baby's bottom. Finally, I have searched high and low, and these are the best priced indian prefolds on the web. Just a note about sizing... although our son was 7 pounds when he was born, the preemie size (which supposedly goes up to 10 pounds) was too narrow to use with a Snappi, and leaked when just placed in a cover, and the infant size was too large for his extra-small covers. The infant size worked great once he moved up to small covers, and we still got plenty of use out of the preemies since they make great burp cloths or doublers. Rating: [4 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Natasha on Friday 03 April, 2009 This is a comment about sizing, because I haven't had a chance to use these for long. My 16-month-old boy is in the 90th percentile (weighs about 29 pounds). I've always had to size up disposables for him, so I ordered the premium size Indian prefolds with the toddler-size Snappis, with a few infant size prefolds to use as doublers.
After pre-washing, the premium is the right size and so is the Snappi. However, I really don't understand why there's not a medium size available between "infant" and "premium." I'm pretty sure the "premium" would be too big, and the "infant" too small, for a lot of average-sized kids.
My little boy had never had cloth diapers before. The first time I put one of these on him, he insisted about 20 minutes later that I take it off. It was wet . . . barely . . . I'm hoping this means he'll potty train fast. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Jennae on Thursday 05 March, 2009 I'm pleased! I highly recommend these diapers. We used disposables for the first two months, and I was skeptical about switching to cotton. But they fluff up beautifully and are very absorbent. I have to change him more often with cotton than disposable, but that's ok... I even bought the bumgenius fleece diaper liners, so he's not sitting on wet cloth. The fleece doesn't hold wetness, instead it wicks the pee thru to the cotton, and my Thirsties covers hold it all in.
These diapers also work well with BF (loose) poo. His poo always splattered and leaked in the disposables; but it absorbs nicely with these soft cotton diapers!

I bought a few prefolds just as "back up" in case I wasn't able to get my regular cloth diapers washed before my son would need changing again. Ironically enough, I fell in love with prefolds. They contain poops well, absorb really well...and the Indian prefolds are so soft! You can even dye them or embellish them to add decoration if you want to! Even now, I reach for these inexpensive diapers more than any other. If I'm going to be out for a while or for long sleeping periods (naps or night time) I use pockets or all in ones but otherwise, my prefolds are the way to go! There's nothing cuter than a baby in an old-fashioned prefold diaper and a Snappi! Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Rebecca on Monday 24 November, 2008 These are SO soft and easy to wash. I use them with a Thirsties or Bummis Super Brite cover and a Snappi and we are good to go! I've been very happy with them. Rating: [3 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Jolene on Saturday 22 November, 2008 These are soft and absorbent, however I have a 'long n lean' baby and the bulk of these things is awful. She hates wearing them and is fussy whenever I put them on her. I like the absorbency but really dislike how bulky they are up front... am I folding them incorrectly? Maybe, we are fairly new to this cloth diapering gig. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Kimberly on Friday 21 November, 2008 I really recommend these, too. I was scared to use prefold diapers (I was new to cloth diapering and thought I better just stick with all-in-ones and pockets...) but I purchased a few of these and a bummis super whisper wrap and I find myself choosing this option often even when there are other diapers clean and ready to go! I think the Indian prefold is so soft and comfy for my son, they are very easy to clean up and they are very breathable. Anyone who is afraid to try and/or use "real" cloth diapers should definitely give these a try with a really good wrap. I've been using the prefolds with a dappie and snappie since my son was born. He is now 10 weeks and we have no complaints. I never have had a leak as long as the diaper is fully covered by the dappie. I can't say the same about disposables when I've used them. These diapers may not be as stylish as others but are great for those who are concerned with practicality and savings. I also tried various velcro diaper covers but have settled on the good old fashioned dappies. My husband also finds them easy, particularly with the snappie. I had Chineese prefold for a long time and decided to try these on my older kids so I would know if I would like them for my new baby. I wish I started with these. They are super absorbant and soft. So much better than the Chineese. I would recomend these over and over again. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Daniela on Tuesday 23 September, 2008 I really love this diaper. As soon as I switched to cloth it healed & didn't even scar. She is now 7 months old & gerber birds-eye & plastic pants just aren't cutting it. She was leaking everytime she went to the bathroom. I was going through 3-4 outfits a day. I decided to spend the money & got the pkg that included 12 prefolds, 2 whisper wraps & a snappi clip. I ended up getting 2 pkgs because she goes to daycare. I was surprised at how big the premium was when I got it. It took me a little to manuever it & I had to find the perfect fit. Once I did that, I don't know how I EVER settled for Gerber diapers. We have not had one leak in over a month!!!! So worth it!!!! Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Karla on Tuesday 26 August, 2008 I started using these when my son was 3 weeks old. I really like them, but even my breastfed baby was staining the diapers. I tried color safe bleach, but it didn't get all the stains out. I tried drying them outside and found that the sun is the best bleach ever! Now my diapers look like new again and smell good too! I started out with gerber prefold, they are not very absorbent but the birdseye fold is very soft and stretchy. I then found this web site and indian prefolds... i love them. I bought chinese too but indian are softer and very absorbent. The little nappy pants are my favorite and trim too because these diapers are thick. so you want a trim cover. I also have 12 bum geniuns diapers for my when my family watches him and when i know I'm going to be out in a rush but honestly once you get it down its just as easy!!! Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Mary on Thursday 15 May, 2008 I LOVE these prefolds! So absorbant and not scratchy at all once you prep them. My son is still tiny so I have to fold down the rise, but that just means more growing room for later! We use them with Thirsties covers and have never had a single leak, even with heavy wetting and huge poos. And they wash really well... no stains on mine even after lots of use. I can't say the same for other pocket diapers that we use... these are high on my list of cloth diapering favorites. Easy to use, less expensive, high quality... what more could you ask for?
