I have a 14 month old and just recently made the switch to cloth. I tried both Bumgenius diapers (the 4.0 and the all-in-ones) and the Econobum system. Flip worked the best for us because you can use the covers (which are adorable) all day and only change the inserts - you don't have to wash the entire diaper. We took advantage of Cotton Babies' return policy to "try out" the other diapers without having to make a big commitment. We use the stay dry inserts (we double up at night) and the snaps rather than the velcro. They are super easy to clean (when they get poopie), very absorbent, and they wash up well. I think they are less bulky than the other options. We had a couple of leaks at first but discovered that our fit wasn't quite right. I contacted cottonbabies and they were very helpful but after trying everything they suggested they still leak. The second issue ive had is that they are leaving red marks on her thighs but if I loosen them they leak worse so I cant win.... ive been using cottonbaby products for over five years and have loved everything else ive used. Let me start out by saying that I had a really bad experience with cloth diapers. I had ordered a complete system from another company and they didn't work for us at all. They leaked everytime and they started falling apart within three weeks of use. But I really wanted to cloth diaper our 8 month old daughter, so I decided to give a different brand a try. I ordered these after reading the reviews and doing some research. They are wonderful! Not only are they really economical but they work! Our daughter is a heavy wetter but I felt like there had to be a cloth diaper that would work for her. This is it! The Stay-Dry Inserts work great and keep her feeling dry. I use a doubler at night and she wakes up dry and happy every morning! I would highly recommend these diapers to anyone. Thanks Cotton Babies for such a wonderful product! Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Stephanie on Friday 30 November, 2012 These are our favorite of all the cloth diapers. We have been using them for 3 yrs now with 3 kids, and a stash of 30 covers and 60 inserts gets us through at least 2 solid days, sometimes longer--my 3yo is close to potty training but my 2yo and 7mo still use them exclusively. We were very excited to be able to totally refresh our stash during the Black Friday - Cyber Monday sale, and will be reselling our previous stash to another Mama in a few days who is very excited to be using Flips as well.
We have used bumGenius, prefolds with covers, and of course Flips, and Flips are by far our favorite. They are so easy to grab and go, and you don't have to spend an hour stuffing each time they come out of the wash (both of which things are really important when you're a busy mom of multiple littles!). Also, they are SUPER at keeping big messes IN. We hardly ever have poo anywhere other than inside the diaper, and, like I said, have been using Flips exclusively for 3 yrs. At night we double the stay dry inserts and almost never have leaks. We also almost never have rashes, and when we do, we do a strip cycle as part of our normal wash routine (See Cloth Diaper Basics link in bottom of left column here on CottonBabies.com) and things are back to normal. We just can't say enough good things about these diapers.
For the quality, price, ease of use and versatility, you definitely couldn't find a better diaper. Especially in this economy, where it's important to families to save as much as possible while providing the best care for their children, you definitely can't go wrong with Flips. Not only has it saved us money, but these diapers are fantastic! I currently have 2 children (23 months & 2 months) in them and have had no problems with them at all. I have not had a single leak and the fit is so much more trim than our old bg 3.0's. At night I just put in an old soaker from our other diapers along with a stay dry insert and it does fine for our 23 month old. Our 2 month old can go all night in one stay dry insert. When I recommend diapers to friends just starting in cloth I'm starting to highly recommend getting at least 1 day pack of Flips to use at home.
My only recommendation is that almost every time my baby poos we need to wash the cover (because poo gets on it). She is pretty predictable with poop, so I econobum her up until after she has done that, and then use this for wet diapers during the day. I like the flip stay dry. I use two at naptime, and you can put any prefold into a cotton babies "sock" for an anytime stay-dry diaper. I use the stay-dry insert and a hemp doubler for two plus hours, and my (big) baby is rash free. This is the most versatile system ever. Love this. I cannot say enough good things about Flip. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Kari on Saturday 17 December, 2011 Cotton Babies Verified Purchase As far as I am concerned, these are the best cloth diaper ever invented. I have been using them every day since they came out over two years ago. First with my 15 month - potty trained older child. Now with my NB - currently 10 month old.
-They are extremely affordable. I can afford to have a large stash. I like to have 14 covers (so I can use 2 rotating per day for a week) and 36 inserts. One could get by with far less, and spend probably $200 to diaper a child from birth-potty training (and then maybe still be able to reuse or sell some of them in the end!)
-They fit well at all ages. I prefer the extra adjustability of the velcro over snap.
-The stay dry is quite dry. I sometimes use an extra stay-dry liner for along nap. I do use disposables at night. Although flips hold everything just fine through the night with enough inserts, my kids have EXTREMELY sensitive skin, and I'm just not willing to risk a rash.
- I will not stuff or unstuff a pocket diaper, but the flip is so easy to use.
-I work full time, and frequent diaper washing is not an option. I wash diapers once a week and no more. Flip gives me the ability to leave them dirty in a pail for an entire week. I sometimes store the dirty covers separately and occasionally wash them more frequently if we run out. On laundry day I run the inserts through 2 full cycles, the second on sanitize and often with bleach. They still look great after two years of use with minimal stains or wear, despite my abysmal care techniques of weekly, AGGRESSIVE washing. Then I wash the covers separately on hot, so as not to wear them out.
-I did with my second child have a little pee leakage with heavy-wetting during naps. Almost no leakage of poop ever. I was determined to stay with flips, so bought some new covers, and realized that some of my oldest over 2 year old covers that had gone through potentially 200+ washes had lost a bit of their waterproof. Now we use the new covers for naps, old ones still work fine while awake, and no more leaks. I don't think this is a fault of the flips. They go through a LOT of abuse in my house and have really stood up to the challenge!

My SIL recommended this system because it is comparably inexpensive and easy to use. I loved all of the colors to chose from and ordered 4 day packs, which gave me 8 shells and 24 liners.
My husband loves this system because it is so easy to use and it saves us money. The low cost of the system makes it even more of a cost-savings compared to disposable.
The only issue we have had with it is that the shells do get soiled easily, so I ended up having to go through more shells than anticipated, but 8 shells still lasts us 2-3 days. As for the smell that other reviewers have mentioned, it was solved by simply stripping the diapers. No big deal at all.
Over all, a very good system, especially for the money. It makes cloth diapering two kids (19 months & 3 months) outside the house possible again! I had been putting them in disposables to go out, otherwise I had to carry two diaper bags to fit enough diapers for both kids. With the Flips I just throw in a gender neutral spare cover, and a stack of inserts and off we go! Plus, I was away for the weekend and only came home with a medium wet bag of dirty diapers for two babies!! We did try out the disposable inserts too, and they work great! I double them on DS for overnight or longer stretches during the day (like 3 hours at playgroup, plus driving to and from - he went about 4 hours with no leaking... that's unheard of for my heavy wetter!). I love how trim they are too... even more so with the disposable inserts!

Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Erin on Thursday 08 September, 2011 Cotton Babies Verified Purchase I love these diapers. I originally bought one Flip Day Pack with the 2 covers and 6 inserts. I ended up switching between these and disposables for a while until I could afford more. Now I have 10 covers and about 40 inserts. I bought the ones with snaps.
I wash mine 2 times a week, sometimes 3 if poo gets on more covers. I do a cold wash and a sanitary wash wich is usually good enough to remove any stains or odor. The covers do seem to build up an odor sometimes, but I just throw in a little bleach. They suggest 1/4 cup in the hot wash once a month, but that seemed like too much. They smelled like bleach for a while afterwards. I use about a capful and it helps with the odor without making them smell like bleach.
My sister-in-law used the BG 3.0 with velcro. I think the Flip are less bulky than those, which I like. My son is able to go all night without leaking in the Flip and I like that I can buy disposable inserts. When we go out of town to visit family or camping we use the disposable inserts which I don't have to worry about rinsing poo out of or carrying around dirty (even in a bag they make an odor, to me). If I'm just going out for the day I have Bummi's Fabulous Wet Bags that can hold the diapers until I get home (or just covers for camping, out of town, etc).
I have had them for about 10 months and they are holding up beautifully, no pilling on the covers, no sign of the elastic around the legs getting worn, no stains on the inserts (leave them in the sun a bit if they do), and no leaks when they are put on properly. My son is a year old, and on the small side. At 17 lbs I've finally moved him up to the second size up. I can't say enough about how happy I am with these. I have a 9 month old boy and haven't had issues with poop or pee leaking from the diapers at all. I use a flush-able liner on top of the insert so it's easier clean up.

They are very easy to put on the baby or toddler. The stay-dry inserts are great - never had issues with diaper/ammonia burn with these.
The biggest down side to these diapers is poo - toddler poo or newborn baby poo alike are not contained on the stay-dry insert and as a general rule, the cover and insert must be thrown into the diaper pail like any AIO or pocket diaper. As a result, one cover often will not last through 3 diaper changes.
All in all, these are good diapers, and I would suggest them for babies who have good voiding patterns and you can trust that they will be used for wet diapers only. My husband likes these alright, but he prefers pockets or AIOs, since he thinks it's hard to put these two pieces on our wiggly baby. I don't think it's hard at all.

I find the flips a bit difficult to put on a squirmy baby (especially in the middle of the night). It would be nice if there were snaps to hold the insert in place. Secondly, when he poops it gets all over the cover so I have to change the whole diaper, just like a pocket style. On the positive side, I very rarely have leaks with the flips. Plus they are very trim and don't take up much room in the diaper bag. I use them when we're out and and about, but the Bumgenius are by far my favorite! Rating: [2 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Amanda on Friday 15 April, 2011 I absolutely loved these at first. They were trim, easy to wash and dry, kept in leaks, took up less room in the diaper bag. We could use them starting at about 10 lbs, and they truly would be big enough for a potty training child. They were a bit difficult for the grandparents to use, they would end up w/ the insert sticking out. However, after 3 mos of use the elastic had lost its strength around the legs, causing leaks. Although they were under warranty and I was told to send them in, I was frustrated that I would have to make a trip to the PO and pay to ship them, so I sold them and switched to 4.0s. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Amy on Thursday 07 April, 2011 Cotton Babies Verified Purchase I'm actually selling all my other diapers (except a few Bum Genius) and switching to Flips all the way. Why?
1. They're very trim. No bubble butt. Clothes fit better.
2. There's less in the diaper bag, diaper pail, and washing machine when you use 1 cover and 4 inserts instead of 4 shells and 4 inserts over the same period of time.
3. I never have leaking. Ever. No compression leaking like pockets.
4. I don't have to worry that my husband or my 82-year-old mother-in-law didn't fasten the diaper properly because they're easy and forgiving.
5. I'm sick of stuffing pocket diapers and don't have the time.
6. They're one size fits all (starting at about 4 months).
7. Solid colors don't clash with what the baby's wearing during the summer, so I can pick 1 or 2 colors to match her outfit for the day and not worry that the pastel butterflies on her shirt are going to eventually clash with bright stars on her diaper over the course of a few diaper changes.
8. They're not so tight as to leave elastic marks on her thighs.
9. I love the stay-dry insert because it really stays dry next to her skin. I think it's better than pocket diapers. The disposable inserts, however, I don't care for because they're wet against her skin.
10. Cotton Babies has free shipping. :P Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Anne on Monday 21 March, 2011 Cotton Babies Verified Purchase I really like the Flip diapers with the Stay Dry inserts! I get a great, trim fit and never have leak issues unless I go too long without changing (even then, it's rare.) "Blowouts" are pretty much a thing of the past. These do get some staining from poo (baby is EBF) but it seems to wash out a bit as I continue to use the diapers and the sun really is magic! I do find that these aren't quite as easy as pocket diapers because you have to fold and position a new insert at each change as well as deal with a sopping wet insert while out and about rather then wrapping up an entire pocket diaper, but these are minor issues when you look at the affordability! Every once in awhile I will only get one use out of a cover due to a messy poo, but for the most part the insert contains it. The covers do keep poo contained even with him being a very active crawler. The inserts are super soft and wash up great, the only downside to the inserts is they do tend to slide around a little bit. I also have some indian prefolds that I use and they work great as well. I tend to use the prefolds for night time and first thing in the morning (he's a heavy wetter these times of the day) or I double up on the inserts (which also fixes the sliding issue). Rating: [2 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Jessica on Thursday 24 February, 2011 Cotton Babies Verified Purchase At first I thought this would be the diaper for me...until my little one did a number 2. The insert it comes with is just a little too narrow in the diaper and the poop went over the sides. The idea is you can just wipe the poop off if it gets on the cover, but the problem was that the material that covers the leg elastic soaks up the poop and then you have to wash the whole cover. It might not be a problem for more solid poop or if you have a toddler that only poops once or twice a day, but newborns poop 8-10 times a day and it's usually runny! That means you would need at the very least 8 covers for a newborn and many more inserts, and that MIGHT last you through the day. This totally defeats the purpose of these diapers since the idea is you can save money by using one cover for a long period of time.
Say you buy two of the day packs. That's already $99.90 and only gives you 4 covers and 12 inserts.
Or if you buy 12 of the covers with included insert ($16.95 each) that adds up to $203.40. You can buy a 12 pack of the BumGenius pocket diapers for the exact same price!
However, I have heard many others say that the flip covers work much better with prefolds. If you buy cheap prefolds and just a few of the flip covers by themselves, then you CAN save tons of money. The covers themselves are great at keeping in leaks if you just use something that will catch the poop! Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by cara on Friday 11 February, 2011 Cotton Babies Verified Purchase I had written a review when I first purchased these before actual use to comment on the look and feel. I'm back to review them based on the actual use, and so far, so good! They do bunch up, and my breastfed baby's poops ALWAYS get on the cover, but this hasn't bothered me. I'm starting to feed him solids, and even the more solid poos get on the cover. I just switch the cover and we're good to go. I can reuse covers for the wet diapers though. At night, one stay dry insert isn't enough to contain his pee the whole night. The diaper doesn't leak, but he wakes up with a very wet bum, so I need to use a doubler at night. However, during the day, they are great as I can change him more often and don't need a doubler. The inserts wash nicely and have not retained any stains. However, some of the covers have. If I could do it over, I would have gone with all darker colors like moonbeam and ribbit or butternut as opposed to noodle, so that the staining was less apparent. It's really not that noticeable, but they are lightly stained in some spots. Now that I'm feeding my son solids, I need to shake the solids off, and this hasn't been an issue at all with the inserts. The solids slide right off when swished in the toilet (my preferred method). All in all, this is the only diaper we use, and I am very happy with my purchase, and would purchase again. The snaps are great and the colors are cute. I love that there is a front and back flap to cover the edge of the insert so it doesn't leak out the top or back. The covers air dry quickly. In case anyone is curious, I have a stash of 6 covers and 18 inserts, and this works great washing every other day. Although I was worried that the snaps on my flips would be more time consuming and difficult to use than the hook and loop, they haven't been that bad and I'm thinking they may last longer and be a better choice in the long run. The velcro on my son's bumgenius still work fine but after 18 months of use with my son they have seen better days and I worry they may not make it through 2 years of diapering for my daughter. I have had leaks with the flips and I think it's a matter of pulling the flap tight enough around the legs before you snap the snaps. I don't have that problem with the hook and loop which I can pull tighter while I fasten the top. The stay dry liner is fabulous and really keeps my daughter dry. I don't use prefolds because the liner keeps her so much drier. All in all a great product and I will definitely buy more. They are a different shape and the stitching is far tighter than the originals. The difference is like night and day. They don't work well for my breastfed infant, but the covers work over her sized prefolds and grow as they do. They fit my toddler beautifully and work really well for her. My only complaint really is that the inserts can develop a smell easily, but that's a microfiber thing and easily avoided if you're careful. Thanks for a great product! Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Debra on Sunday 12 December, 2010 I've been using the product now for about a month and have loved it! I was a disposable only diaper user and cloth diapers scared me. They seemed complicated, mostly because I had no idea what I was doing and there are so many options out there. My friend sold me on the FLIP system. She's been using it for about a year now and loves it. For myself, I was most concerned about leaks. I don't like getting poop on my clothes while I'm nursing my child. The DIAPER- as a whole unit- contains my newborn poop- which is what it should do. If I use a disposable, the poop is all over my daughters clothes. The stay dry liners work great! I use this product on my 2 month old and 3 year old son. For the amount of urine they both produce, the stay dry liner is enough for overnight for both of them. During the day, I change it every 2-3 hours, and its great! Some of my liners are having a bit of pilling and some of the stiches are coming apart. But nothing that can't be fixed in my sewing machine. Bottom line, they keep poop off my kids clothes and they launder clean and easily. They also dry fast. I use ECOS laundry soap- and so far, it's working out great.
p.s. for the woman who wrote a review about the colours- you might need to re-calibrate your computer monitor. I thought I would never CD again....until our 3rd came along, who's a heavy wetter, is prone to rashes & has very chunky thighs. We spent 2 days researching all the products/brands available & went with the Flip System. I CAN NOT say enough about how great these diapers are! We ordered a day pack to test out & after a week of use, have decided to have these make up our entire stash. Even for my husband, these are easy to use, clean, & store. Absolutely no leaks outside the cover, even overnight. I plan to order a pack of doublers for him as he is a super squirmy baby, & the inserts do slip slightly, since they are not fastened in, (which has a few times left in inside of the cover the tiniest bit damp) but have no complaints! We've been using these for about a month. The only issue I've had is the stitching pulling loose in a couple of the "stay-dry" inserts. They seem to be of a good quality. I love that these are totally affordable and don't create a ton of laundry for me. I sometimes use the covers with Indian prefolds to stretch my dollar a little further, but I do like the stay dry inserts better because they are trimmer but still plenty absorbent.

The one important discovery that we made is to use the organic cotton at night (no leaks, ever!), and the stay dry during the day. The stay dry is a little less bulky for daytime use, but seems to wick the wetness away (as it should) and onto her sleeper, sheets, etc. at night. We have not had leaking problems during the day. We have not needed to do any doubling when using the organics at night. Hope this helps! Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Nina on Friday 27 August, 2010 I use everything from pockets to prefolds with covers to disposables. The flips are my favorite! The fit is awesome on his thin torso and chubbbbbbby thighs. even though they are not double gussetted the fit is good enough that they hold in the EBF poop he used to have. The stay dry liners were important for us because he was all disposables for awhile, and he was used to feeling dry. We also use the flip covers with some other liners we have and prefolds when we're kicking around at home. The cover is super duper cute, and it is pretty breathable as compared to covers like thirsties and proraps. This kind of diaper set up is great for on-the-go because only the liner has to be wet-bagged. They are easier to wash and quicker to dry than prefolds or fitteds. I really just can't say enough good things about them! Rating: [4 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Grace on Monday 16 August, 2010 Cotton Babies Verified Purchase I absolutely LOVE these covers! I tried a Bummis Whisper Wrap, and hated how bulky it was. Then I ordered this day pack, and loved it! The covers are soft, stretchy, stain-resistant, and fit great without being bulky, even on my 2 month old. I haven't had any leaks. However, I am NOT fan of the stay dry inserts. They slip around in the back, and NEVER contain runny newborn poo, so it gets all over the inside of the cover. Also, some of the inserts are much narrower than others, which is frustrating because those slip around even more. I might like the inserts more if they snapped into the back to minimize slipping, but they don't. I have had great success with using Chinese prefolds and a snappi with the Flip covers. I rarely use the Flip inserts anymore. I would HIGHLY reccommend these covers, but strongly discourage the inserts as your primary diapers. I am new to cloth diapering and the flip system is definitely a good way to transition from disposables. I have found that for my kids (14 lb 3 month old and 30 lb 2 year old), I prefer to use prefolds instead of the flip inserts. I have infant size chinese prefolds that I use for my baby (trifolded and then folded down in the front) and sometimes for my toddler (just trifolded... they are the prefect size for the large setting without folding). I use regular size indian prefolds for my toddler (more absorbent!! trifolded and then folded down in front). I have found that the prefolds have less tendency to slide around in the cover than the flip inserts. With my toddler, using the bigger size prefold fills the cover a bit better which means that poop stays on the prefold instead of smearing onto the cover as it tends to do with a flip insert. I do like that the inserts stay dry on top, which is nice for my kiddos sensitive skin, but we've found that prefolds tend to be more absorbent. It was especially important to my husband! After much research we decided on the Flip system and we are not disappointed. The Stay-Dry inserts never leave her skin wet and have never leaked, even when she has a heavy wetting day and soaks them through. She was having occasional rash with disposables that clears right up when wearing Flip Stay-Dry. Our daughter is very skinny but we have no trouble adjusting the diapers to fit her and they are not overly bulky. I love that she can tug and pull at the snaps and they remain firmly closed- this was a big deal, because she was starting to pull the tabs open on disposables. If I have any complaint it is that sometimes when the insert is heavily soaked the serging at the edges of the flaps feels damp, but more often than not I change the diaper before this has a chance to happen. We will soon be trying the cotton inserts for overnight but we are so pleased with the Stay-Dry inserts that they will likely be the bulk of our stash. Inserts: I've been using prefolds, so these are wonderful! Easy, soft, and absorbent. They even meet the needs of my heavy-wetting six-month-old and still keep her dry. Poop comes off easier than prefolds too.
Covers: I love the colors and fabric, but the fit only works for my chubby six-month-old daughter, not my skinny 2-year-old son, who are both on the same height adjustment. The leg gussets are a bit on the loose side. I have had one, maybe two leaks from my daughter, but my son leaks almost every time he wears them. The back elastic is not the best either. It seems a little tight and cuts into the kid's back. It also gathers the inside flap in the back causing it to "fan out", which makes it hard to keep the insert in one place while dealing with a wiggly kid. The front flap is great, no complaints there.
I love the system for overnight because it's much less bulk when I add a hemp insert to the Stay-Dry insert as opposed to a prefold and my daughter's skin is dry all night long! I just ordered the bumGenius sprayer to help spray out the poop now that I don't have to do laundry every day. I am now using the flip for my diaper bag, we are a 30 minute drive from the nearest city and so doing errands, the flexibility of the flip is just great. I never had leaks. Sometimes the breastmilk poop will get on the cover, and if it isn't too bad you can rinse in hot water and hang to dry - even if you have to put in the wash, it dries really fast. I like the disposable insert - sometimes I will use a disposable insert on top of a stay dry one if I know he is going to poop and I will need to change him in the car. I know this is long but I just want to recruit more people to cloth diapering - I wish I had a time machine to go back and cloth diaper my other three kids! We've been using disposables for 3.5 years, and were hesitant to switch to cloth because of the workload (3 kids under 3.5.... not much free time, haha) and the high startup cost. These diapers won me over because of how cheap they were (invested $200 in 4 day packs, which gives me enough diapers for 2 full days for my 2 year old and 3 month old) and how easy it sounded. They have definitely met and exceeded my expectations. No leaks, even runny breastmilk BMs. My 2 year old is still nursing at night and is a SUPERsoaker, and has woken up to wet sheets and jammies every day in disposables for months. Now I've been putting him to bed in 2 stay dry inserts and a Flip cover, and he's been waking up dry! I love how the Stay Dry insert feels dry to the touch and wicks moisture away from the skin. The insert does bunch up a lil between the legs when it gets wet, but I can't imagine any insert/trifold system would be any different. Poop does get on the cover a lot, but it's a diaper... as long as it contains the mess (as disposables often did not...), I'm very satisfied. I especially like that I can just wipe out most messes. A few cons that will hopefully be improved in V2.0: Runny poop does often get on the elastic edging on the cover, which is fabric and doesn't wipe off. Fully wipeable double leg gussets would be AWESOME. I just handwash it in the sink and let it hang dry, and throw it in with the inserts every time I do laundry, but it would be nice to be able to skip that step. The only other con that I can think of? No patterns :) Heh. CottonBabies, if you start making patterns, my wallet is in it trouble! :) All in all, awesome diaper, awesome price, very easy system for the new cloth diaper user. We had been using a mixture of Kissaluvs fitteds and prefolds with a Snappi and rubber pants. This was working out ok. However those fitted ones take awhile to dry. My diaper covers were all getting too small and I actually was just looking for those when I logged on and saw these. I needed the covers and so I thought I would give these a try. I am so glad that I did! The insert system is so much easier to use than a prefold. I also purchased a set of the econobum system. I found that they are interchangable as long as you fold the prefolds so they look the same as the flip inserts.
Also they are really absorbent. The only thing I do not like is the fact that after two or three wet diapers you have to use the other cover and rinse the first one. I am used to using the same diaper cover all day unless it gets poop on it. However, if you do not alternate covers it does start to smell like old urine.
All in all though, I am planning to purchase several more inserts to use. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Tabitha on Saturday 06 February, 2010 I love my flips! These are also great with BMs. Yes it may get on the cover...thus the reason to have more than one cover, but flips hold in more than any other diaper I've ever used. They had overall great reviews and I love the convenience of resusing the outer cover and the option of disposable inserts. I considered going with Gro-Baby after my sister chose those, but I found that the Flip had much better reviews and also the GB are much more expensive, MUCH bulkier (my poor niece has the biggest butt!) and they don't have the great colors that Flip does! I don't understand why some people are having a hard time with these, they have worked perfect for my son. He slept 12 hours last night with only one stay dry insert and he sleeps on his side so I thought surely the edges of the cover would be wet, he usually would leak through his regular diaper this way. But to my surprise, totally dry! He is still wearing the same cover he slept in so we are going on about 14 hours in one cover and it is still dry and fresh! As for the poop problems people are having, thats kind of inevitable with any diaper like this. As long as it doesn't leak, I'm happy! I'm doing less laundry anyway so its not a big deal if I have to change out the cover sooner than planned. I highly recommend Flip! They are super trim, cute, and he seems to be very comfortable. Being super excited, I washed the inserts 5 times in hot water, as directed. Meanwhile, I wanted to give the cover a go, so I used a regular prefold during naptime. Worked fine, no leaks, stayed in place. Once the inserts were ready, I stuffed one in: seemed too skinny - way skinnier than the cover, and too long, even on the shortest setting, and too thick when folded over. No worries - I was open. Well, my son has regular BMs, usually more than one a day. Today was no different. My first Flip experience was a bust. The insert was bunched (shifted), there was poo all over the cover, it was a huge mess! There was poo all over the leg openings, all over the back flap, and it had seeped into one of the front closures and leaking through to the outside. The whole "rinse and reuse" is a joke. I rinsed and rinsed just to try to get the poo off. So disappointed. And no money back guarantee. Figures. Why back a product that doesn't work. I had been using the BG 3.0 OS with a doubler at night (12+ hours of sleep) and had occasional leaks. I purchased the flip system thinking it sounded like a good travel option. I soon discovered how easy it was and how awesome and leak-proof the cover is!! I decided to try it at night with one insert and a doubler. This is now my night-time choice. I have never experienced a leaky night since I made the switch. I must also add that I have purchased all my diapers from Cotton Babies and their customer service is outstanding. I really like it and wish that it had been around when I first started cd'ing! It's an economical way to get started. The inserts cost more than prefolds, but the money you save in covers will make up for that I think.
I love that I can also use the cover with the prefolds I already have. I use the green-edged size folded in thirds for during the day and the blue-edge size folded to fit for overnights. I love the stay-dry insert best of all, but I only have 12 so far and that doesn't come close to making up a load of laundry!
The stay-dry insert is very absorbent. I've had one leak overnight and have stuck to day use only since then, but that was a pretty heavy-wetting night for my son.
The only complaint I have is that poop frequently gets on the covers. Since I switch my covers at every change (my son wouldn't sit still for me to reload an insert into the cover - I have to have one ready to go) that's not a huge deal, but it is a little inconvenient. I am usually able to rinse them out really well and hang them to dry and they're ready to go again in a couple of hours. Unfortunately the cover on the smallest setting was way too big for my 5lb newborn, and it's still too big for her 1 month later at 8lb. :( BUT I had to use these in a pinch a couple times, and I didn't have any leaks, even though there were wide gaps at the leg openings. (Of course she doesn't move around much at this point and I typically change her diaper every 4 hours at most.) The Flip insert is incredibly absorbent, although oddly not wide enough for the cover. I actually like to trifold a regular-size Chinese prefold and use that as an insert for the Flip cover; it fits PERFECTLY (and now I'm no longer scared of prefolds haha). And I've been using the inserts in other smaller diaper covers with wonderful results. I do like the stretchy fabric of the Flip cover, allowing for a better fit even with the snaps. But the inside flaps are not lined in PUL and tend to absorb moisture, making them smell and not so great for reuse... at least I won't reuse a diaper that I know is soaked in pee which can't be wiped off. We have also used prefiolds with it, but prefer the inserts. These are nice and stretchy and thin. The snaps give a great fit for my 3 month old and my 17 month old. No leaks at all! These diapers are the least bulky option I have used. These are my sole diaper for day time and sometimes night. I have fuzzi bunz for night and a bum genius 3.0. I would not buy another Bum Genius with the velcro as the fit is not nearly as good as these or the fuzzi bunz one size. Still my Fuzzi bunz have leaked and are bulkier and these are not. Only 3 things I would change about the Flip...1- the back flap should be as big as the front to hold the insert in place while putting on. 2- more color choices (frustrating if more come now as I just bought all my diapers). 3-these are air dry only...they do air dry quickly, but any busy mom would prefer the option to dry in the dryer. Oh and make sure the smooth side is up, I use 2 inserts for nap time and the smooth side up keeps your baby dry against their skin.

I will stick with the BG for baby-sitting, however, because the FLIP's clean-up is more hands-on than the BG and I'm not sure how many people will feel comfortable with touching the wet or soiled liner if it's not their baby. We have the day pack, and there hasn't been a single time, not even once, when my daughter's first pee/poo in the diaper doesn't ruin the cover for subsequent use. I just can't get more than 1 use out of the cover. Sure I can wipe out the interior, but that doesn't help the poop that gets on the back flap and on the non-coated part of the PUL at the legs. The covers are really flimsy. There is no chance that they insert will stay put the way it is designed. And I am using this on a 3.5 month old....she's not even moving yet and the insert gets all bunched up. Plus, even though two of the 3 rows of buttons are reinforced, I can't image how they are going to withstand 2 years of tugging and fastening as she grows through the weight range. This was a huge disappointment. If you are considering this style of diaper, you'd be better suited to try gDiapers with washable inserts. He is also sometimes poos multiple times in one day and I have never had a problem with leaks on that as well. I also ordered some of the disposables inserts. I'm not a big fan of these as I feel that they would not work for my son cause he is such a heavy wetter and his poo can sometimes be very messing inside of the diaper. I've been using one flip day pack with five extra inserts and this lasts about 1.75 days. My son is seven months, 19lbs, 28.5", and is always on the move. Everything has stayed in the diaper, but the cover needs to be changed every time he poos, but I think this is to be expected. The diapers fit great, we have them on the second setting. The stretchy tabs make the fit great. These fit trimmer than the One Size Bumgenius pocket diaper, and are easier to snap than the Fuzzi bunz. However, I will say even with the stay dry inserts he gets wetter than with a pocket diaper, I think this is because the fleece is attached to the microfiber. Thus, we need to change more frequently or he gets a rash. Also, the one thing they cheaped out on was the reinforcement of the snaps. The top snaps are lightly reinforced; however, the snaps that affect the rise are not. I guess the thinking was that these are not adjusted as often? So, if you google for some pictures you'll notice that in the rise buttons there is some pulling and it doesn't get a nice smooth look. I noticed that the diaper in the pack I had chosen was not sewn very well and the gusset was very loose so tried the other diaper. Same thing. The liner does not stay well in the fold system and she is active. Basically wadded up between her legs and pee everywhere. The leg gussets were much better on the second diaper however. Quality control??? Does not seem to be too good here.

I have absolutley no problems with this Flip system! From now on I'll be using my gDiapers as backups. In case anyone was wondering...the gDiaper inserts work just fine in the flip diaper. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Krista on Monday 26 October, 2009 Cotton Babies Verified Purchase don't knock this until you try them! they are great. we had to ditch the bg because the little one and aplix don't get along. we only use snap dipes now. we have the g system, and while i like it, i like this a LOT better. the insert is just as good, the shell is better. the fit is fantastic. i have a 35 inch, 29 pound 19 month old and the dipe fits him great. i agree, very trim. holds well. this will be our main system when we have our next one! Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Mary on Thursday 22 October, 2009 Cotton Babies Verified Purchase We recieved ours yesterday and tried them on. Great fit and VERY TRIM on our long and lean guy. We couldn't have asked for a more economical and still beautiful diaper. The way the flaps are built make the insert stay in snug and the insert holds A LOT (you can tell after you prewash them). We value only having to have 2 plastic covers. It makes me feel a little guilty about all our AIO'S. The FLIP system will benefit many a family as well as the environment. What a great product! Wish these had been out when we started diapering. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Heather on Sunday 18 October, 2009 Cotton Babies Verified Purchase I just cannot wait to get these! It seems like the perfect diapering system - I ordered two of the packages, which is such a great deal when you compare it to the regular BG - especially because those you have to wash after one use!
I am brand new to cloth diapering and after doing extensive research on the best items to get I have found that this is the BEST deal and the BEST idea. Grobaby does the same thing but it's much more expensive and bumGenius has much better reviews than Grobaby. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Sarah on Wednesday 14 October, 2009 I am so excited about these! We have 3 BG 3.0's and have tried other cheaper brands that never compared. I could not afford to purchase a big package of them so, to have something like this offered is absolutely amazing. My son suffers from severe allergies and is practically head-to-toe eczema. BG's are super soft, excellent fit, and are made of the highest quality! Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Jana on Tuesday 13 October, 2009 I'm hoping they'll come out with more colors too. I'd like them in yellow or green so they'd be more gender nuetral. How do people who don't know what they're having decide which color to get?
