Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Margot on Wednesday 12 June, 2013 Cotton Babies Verified PurchaseI was a late comer to cloth diapering. When I bought the Flip System, I wasn't sure if I wanted to go all in or do cloth part time. I chose Flip because it was on the cheaper side and it looked like a good way to ease into cloth. I was right and I love it. The fit is great for my 13 month old, I started using it when he was 11 months. I haven't used it overnight yet, so I cannot say how it holds overnight. I do like the stay-dry because when I change him, his bottom is dry, unlike when I just use a cotton prefold. I think they hold a decent amount of pee, but I do usually have to change him around the 2 hour mark. The only thing I do not like or wish it could be changed, would be to have the stay dry inserts a little wider, because when my baby would poo (breastfeed/kinda solid) it's get on the cover & underneath the insert. All in all, love it. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Jamie on Thursday 28 March, 2013 Cotton Babies Verified Purchase The Flip Diaper system is our solution to cloth diapering. I have a 14 month old and just recently made the switch to cloth. I tried both Bumgenius diapers (the 4.0 and the all-in-ones) and the Econobum system. Flip worked the best for us because you can use the covers (which are adorable) all day and only change the inserts - you don't have to wash the entire diaper. We took advantage of Cotton Babies' return policy to "try out" the other diapers without having to make a big commitment. We use the stay dry inserts (we double up at night) and the snaps rather than the velcro. They are super easy to clean (when they get poopie), very absorbent, and they wash up well. I think they are less bulky than the other options. We had a couple of leaks at first but discovered that our fit wasn't quite right. I wish I had started earlier but plan on using these with our next baby due in May. I really wanted to love these but the longer ive used them the more I'm starting to dislike them. First thing ive noticed is that on my chubby thither seventeen pound seven month old they leak around the legs even if she isn't very wet. I contacted cottonbabies and they were very helpful but after trying everything they suggested they still leak. I cant leave her in one for more then an hour so we don't use them outside of the house or overnight. The second issue ive had is that they are leaving red marks on her thighs but if I loosen them they leak worse so I cant win.... ive been using cottonbaby products for over five years and have loved everything else ive used. Maybe its just my daughter. I put an order in for a few freetimes to try. I don't want to give up on cloth... Let me start out by saying that I had a really bad experience with cloth diapers. I had ordered a complete system from another company and they didn't work for us at all. They leaked everytime and they started falling apart within three weeks of use. But I really wanted to cloth diaper our 8 month old daughter, so I decided to give a different brand a try. I ordered these after reading the reviews and doing some research. They are wonderful! Not only are they really economical but they work! Our daughter is a heavy wetter but I felt like there had to be a cloth diaper that would work for her. This is it! The Stay-Dry Inserts work great and keep her feeling dry. I use a doubler at night and she wakes up dry and happy every morning! I would highly recommend these diapers to anyone. Thanks Cotton Babies for such a wonderful product! Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Stephanie on Friday 30 November, 2012 These are our favorite of all the cloth diapers. We have been using them for 3 yrs now with 3 kids, and a stash of 30 covers and 60 inserts gets us through at least 2 solid days, sometimes longer--my 3yo is close to potty training but my 2yo and 7mo still use them exclusively. We were very excited to be able to totally refresh our stash during the Black Friday - Cyber Monday sale, and will be reselling our previous stash to another Mama in a few days who is very excited to be using Flips as well.
We have used bumGenius, prefolds with covers, and of course Flips, and Flips are by far our favorite. They are so easy to grab and go, and you don't have to spend an hour stuffing each time they come out of the wash (both of which things are really important when you're a busy mom of multiple littles!). Also, they are SUPER at keeping big messes IN. We hardly ever have poo anywhere other than inside the diaper, and, like I said, have been using Flips exclusively for 3 yrs. At night we double the stay dry inserts and almost never have leaks. We also almost never have rashes, and when we do, we do a strip cycle as part of our normal wash routine (See Cloth Diaper Basics link in bottom of left column here on CottonBabies.com) and things are back to normal. We just can't say enough good things about these diapers.
For the quality, price, ease of use and versatility, you definitely couldn't find a better diaper. Especially in this economy, where it's important to families to save as much as possible while providing the best care for their children, you definitely can't go wrong with Flips. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Deborah on Thursday 15 November, 2012 Cotton Babies Verified Purchase Love these diapers! We tried prefolds with these as covers and I just hated how wet she was and so did she. The stay dry inserts really wick away the moisture and can hardly be described as "wet" for changes, rather they're heavy. My husband thinks these diapers are easy too! Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Melissa on Wednesday 31 October, 2012 Cotton Babies Verified Purchase If you are looking at cloth diapers, definitely get these! I Love these diapers! I have several other expensive brands of cloth diapers and these really hold up to my daughter! These don't leak when she pees unlike the other ones (They have to be changed every half hour). They do sometimes leak when she poops though, but my daughter is an explosive pooper and the other cloth diapers and even disposables can't hold up to her poops like these can! If I could upload pictures I would show you her clothes after her bowel movement in these, and ones from her other diapers. This is great for a budget! Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by April on Thursday 08 March, 2012 Cotton Babies Verified Purchase We started using cloth 4 years ago and fell in love with our bumGenius 3.0's. After 4 years and 2 kids, they started wearing out. We were starting on baby #3 in cloth and I decided it was time to get new diapers. I was thrilled to discover the Flip. Not only has it saved us money, but these diapers are fantastic! I currently have 2 children (23 months & 2 months) in them and have had no problems with them at all. I have not had a single leak and the fit is so much more trim than our old bg 3.0's. At night I just put in an old soaker from our other diapers along with a stay dry insert and it does fine for our 23 month old. Our 2 month old can go all night in one stay dry insert. Thank you so much for such an amazing product! Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Niki on Wednesday 18 January, 2012 I have had no issues with my Flip system. I think they are a great, less expensive option. I try to just use them at home and have many BG 4.0s for when we go out and for day care. These are a great extension of my diaper stash. When I recommend diapers to friends just starting in cloth I'm starting to highly recommend getting at least 1 day pack of Flips to use at home.
My only recommendation is that almost every time my baby poos we need to wash the cover (because poo gets on it). If someone is using this as a full-time system I would definitely see the need for additional covers than the 2 that come with the kit. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by LeeAnne on Sunday 15 January, 2012 Cotton Babies Verified Purchase This is the ultimate! I love Flips! I use these on my 2 year old daughter. She's a super wetter. These covers are absolutely amazing! So comfy. She loves them. The covers are so durable. I am newly cloth diapering and these covers are the best I have ever seen. She is pretty predictable with poop, so I econobum her up until after she has done that, and then use this for wet diapers during the day. I like the flip stay dry. I use two at naptime, and you can put any prefold into a cotton babies "sock" for an anytime stay-dry diaper. I use the stay-dry insert and a hemp doubler for two plus hours, and my (big) baby is rash free. This is the most versatile system ever. Love this. I cannot say enough good things about Flip. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Kari on Saturday 17 December, 2011 Cotton Babies Verified Purchase As far as I am concerned, these are the best cloth diaper ever invented. I have been using them every day since they came out over two years ago. First with my 15 month - potty trained older child. Now with my NB - currently 10 month old.
-They are extremely affordable. I can afford to have a large stash. I like to have 14 covers (so I can use 2 rotating per day for a week) and 36 inserts. One could get by with far less, and spend probably $200 to diaper a child from birth-potty training (and then maybe still be able to reuse or sell some of them in the end!)
-They fit well at all ages. I prefer the extra adjustability of the velcro over snap.
-The stay dry is quite dry. I sometimes use an extra stay-dry liner for along nap. I do use disposables at night. Although flips hold everything just fine through the night with enough inserts, my kids have EXTREMELY sensitive skin, and I'm just not willing to risk a rash.
- I will not stuff or unstuff a pocket diaper, but the flip is so easy to use.
-I work full time, and frequent diaper washing is not an option. I wash diapers once a week and no more. Flip gives me the ability to leave them dirty in a pail for an entire week. I sometimes store the dirty covers separately and occasionally wash them more frequently if we run out. On laundry day I run the inserts through 2 full cycles, the second on sanitize and often with bleach. They still look great after two years of use with minimal stains or wear, despite my abysmal care techniques of weekly, AGGRESSIVE washing. Then I wash the covers separately on hot, so as not to wear them out.
-I did with my second child have a little pee leakage with heavy-wetting during naps. Almost no leakage of poop ever. I was determined to stay with flips, so bought some new covers, and realized that some of my oldest over 2 year old covers that had gone through potentially 200+ washes had lost a bit of their waterproof. Now we use the new covers for naps, old ones still work fine while awake, and no more leaks. I don't think this is a fault of the flips. They go through a LOT of abuse in my house and have really stood up to the challenge!
Thank you cottonbabies! Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Hannah on Friday 25 November, 2011 Cotton Babies Verified Purchase This was my first cloth-diapering experience, and it's got me hooked for life.
My SIL recommended this system because it is comparably inexpensive and easy to use. I loved all of the colors to chose from and ordered 4 day packs, which gave me 8 shells and 24 liners.
My husband loves this system because it is so easy to use and it saves us money. The low cost of the system makes it even more of a cost-savings compared to disposable.
The only issue we have had with it is that the shells do get soiled easily, so I ended up having to go through more shells than anticipated, but 8 shells still lasts us 2-3 days. As for the smell that other reviewers have mentioned, it was solved by simply stripping the diapers. No big deal at all.
Over all, a very good system, especially for the money. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Jennifer on Tuesday 15 November, 2011 I got two Flip stay-dry day packs on Friday, and I totally LOVE them!! It makes cloth diapering two kids (19 months & 3 months) outside the house possible again! I had been putting them in disposables to go out, otherwise I had to carry two diaper bags to fit enough diapers for both kids. With the Flips I just throw in a gender neutral spare cover, and a stack of inserts and off we go! Plus, I was away for the weekend and only came home with a medium wet bag of dirty diapers for two babies!! We did try out the disposable inserts too, and they work great! I double them on DS for overnight or longer stretches during the day (like 3 hours at playgroup, plus driving to and from - he went about 4 hours with no leaking... that's unheard of for my heavy wetter!). I love how trim they are too... even more so with the disposable inserts!
My only problem now, is what will I do with the rest of my stash of fluff? Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Erin on Thursday 08 September, 2011 Cotton Babies Verified Purchase I love these diapers. I originally bought one Flip Day Pack with the 2 covers and 6 inserts. I ended up switching between these and disposables for a while until I could afford more. Now I have 10 covers and about 40 inserts. I bought the ones with snaps.
I wash mine 2 times a week, sometimes 3 if poo gets on more covers. I do a cold wash and a sanitary wash wich is usually good enough to remove any stains or odor. The covers do seem to build up an odor sometimes, but I just throw in a little bleach. They suggest 1/4 cup in the hot wash once a month, but that seemed like too much. They smelled like bleach for a while afterwards. I use about a capful and it helps with the odor without making them smell like bleach.
My sister-in-law used the BG 3.0 with velcro. I think the Flip are less bulky than those, which I like. My son is able to go all night without leaking in the Flip and I like that I can buy disposable inserts. When we go out of town to visit family or camping we use the disposable inserts which I don't have to worry about rinsing poo out of or carrying around dirty (even in a bag they make an odor, to me). If I'm just going out for the day I have Bummi's Fabulous Wet Bags that can hold the diapers until I get home (or just covers for camping, out of town, etc).
I have had them for about 10 months and they are holding up beautifully, no pilling on the covers, no sign of the elastic around the legs getting worn, no stains on the inserts (leave them in the sun a bit if they do), and no leaks when they are put on properly. My son is a year old, and on the small side. At 17 lbs I've finally moved him up to the second size up. I can't say enough about how happy I am with these. I wash every other day and I seem to never run short on inserts or covers. If you are a family on a budget that wants a easy way to cloth diaper then these are it. Laundry is easier than I expected with Rockin Green detergent and we have had no irritation on her little skin, no nasties!
