Cloth Diaper 101
a comprehensive resource
about cloth diapers!
Description

Thirsties offers a diaper cover to families looking for a super cute yet effective waterproof wrap that is winning over the hearts of moms and babies all over the globe!

Thirsties Diaper Covers are made from a single layer polyester laminate for optimal breathability and hassle-free washing. Want to get away with fewer diaper covers in rotation? The laminate that lines the inside of the soft polyester can be wiped clean between uses. Then toss in the washer with your diapers and dry on low heat.

Secures with Aplix velcro for a perfect and secure fit everytime. Only the best in components are used in every Thirsties Diaper Cover: Aplix velcro and Lastin elastic that will not wear out or stretch out. Leg gussets provide advanced leakproof protection and bindings are super soft against baby skin and will not wick moisture onto baby's clothes. The X-Small size features an umbilical cut out for your newborn's comfort and all sizes offer convenient fold-over laundry tabs.

The generous cut of Thirsties Diaper Covers offers a superior waterproof exterior on any type of flat, prefolded, contoured, or fitted cloth diaper.

*Recent improvements to Thirsties' already best-selling design includes the addition of a facing layer of laminated fabric that is now attached to the inside of the wings to improve on long-term durability. Also incorporated in the updated version of Thirsties Diaper Covers is another cross-over loop tab to allow users to choose which wing to fasten first. Thirsties' signature leg gussets on the newly released covers have been trimmed down just a hair for improved comfort on chunkier babies and for an overall trimmer fit.*

Machine wash warm or hot. Dry in dryer or hang to dry.

Made in the USA.

My first experience in cd'ing, and I started my newborn (6lbs. 12oz) in this Thirsties Diaper Cover size xs with prefolds. Have to say I love it! No leaks at all, fits nice, and looks like it will last for a while before I move on to the next size. I am much more satisfied with this cover than the Bummis. Highly recommend this cover!

wanted to say I've been using these for 2 years now (various sizes) and the mediums for over one year and they are still holding up great. I don't generally dry them unless I'm desperate for a cover but other than some staining around the gussets I have no problems. Also I only use these for days. At night I have used the BG Pockets and they are also holding up well.

I adore my thirsties covers! I'd read reviews before I purchased them that swore they never leaked, and they don't. They're insanely easy to have ready and put on baby, you don't have to use snappis like you do with some other types of diaper covers, and they stay clean enough to wipe down, air dry, and reuse in a day. I love them and can't say enough about them. They're great to have in my diaper stash. They rank right up there with my BG and Flip covers. The only one up I'd say they have is that there is more color variety with Thirsties.

I've heard that laundry tabs wear down sooner than later so I hadwash most of the time. They tend to get stinkier than others so i do a wipedown and a powder sprinkle in them between changes (i rotate, obviously)

Okay, I like these covers, but I have to admit it's mostly because I am a junkie who loves to have a little of everything! My favorite thing about the Thirsties is the variety of color choices. I like that the binding and leg gussets are white (my red one goes great with all my little guy's STL Cardinals stuff!), but I was disappointed when the inner gussets discolored almost right away (first or second use). I do also like that the velcro tabs seem better (have held up better with months of use) than those on other brands' covers. I do NOT prefer them to Flip, Bummis, or even Econobum because these covers feel very damp inside when the diaper/insert is wet. The front flap especially gets damp, whether I tuck the diaper or insert under it or leave it on top. This front flap is made of PUL fabric, but it is folded over and sewn so that the outside fabric (not the waterproof backing) lays against baby's skin in front (or against the diaper/insert if you don't tuck it under), so of course it gets wet. For this reason I hardly ever reuse without washing, because even a wet diaper/insert makes it wash-worthy. I will reuse in a pinch, but fear a rash. :(

These are amazing I can use the same cover over and over again. The only disadvantage to these covers is that you do not need to buy more than a couple, so it is hard to rationalize buying every colour!! I highly recommend these covers I had the Bummis super brites before and they leaked awfully I thought it was my pre-folds but I was wrong. I have had ZERO leakage with these. When I first recieved them I almost sent them right back because they look so flimsy and uncomfortable, but I was so wrong they fit better and are definitely more comfortable on my little ones, no red marks like with the Bummis. Like someone said previously buy just one and try it out you won't want any others, plus they are cheaper than the others.

I like the Thirsties Diaper Covers, they are the only cover I have currently and have been using the on and off for almost a year now. I have had leaking issues with them which has made it difficult to convince my family that it is worth using cloth. The first leaking issue I have is with the leg gussets. The elastic starts to get wet as soon as the diaper becomes moist and starts to wick out onto everything else. It is much worse when my daughter is very active. I can't imagine the mess if she ever had a loose bm in these. My daughter is 19 months now and they work great at night now, but when I first started using them they leaked every night. With a doubler in the diaper the bulk would make the diaper gap when she rolled on her stomach. With out the doubler, the prefold would get too soaked and leak out from every opening. When I actually wrap the cloth diaper (traditionally with the use of a snappi) instead of using like an insert by sticking it up under the front flap, the front flap gets wet and wicks the moisture out the top of the diaper also making a mess.

Fabulous covers! These are the only covers that I have ever used... (I use prefolds and covers at homes.. and one-size pockets at daycare) so I don't have anything else to compare them to. BUT.. I have never felt the need to ever try anything else out. They are so great.. the fit is great (my 8 month old is still in smalls with plenty of room to grow).. they never leak.. they are just all around an excellent cover. They do leave red marks on my daughter's chunky thighs but they don't bother her.. so they don't bother me :). This cover, in my opinion, is definitely worth the money and more. It is a relatively cheap option, but is still very nice. My advice (as others have said) is to hang them to dry. My velcro looks untouched but I have never put them in the dryer.

In my opinion, these are some of the best and more affordable wrap style covers around. While not essential the wide range of bright colors are lots of fun. I like to order all one color for each size so that when digging through the drawer it's easy to tell each size apart, especially if diapering two different age children at once. The gussets saved us from many a blow-out. Even if the poo gets on the cover, it almost never escapes the diaper. These are by far my favorite cover. They are easy to use, reliable and durable. I have had some minor staining on the white trim on the gussets on a few of them, but that seems to happen with almost any cover I’ve used.

These covers are very good and I have never had any leaking issues... even when messes escape the diaper underneath. They are very cute, too, which is a plus. However, my baby reacted badly to the elastic around the legs. The elastic gets wet even when the diaper is not soaked, and the urine-soaked elastic abrades her delicate skin. I end up having to use a new cover with every diaper change. I have tried everything I can think of and even sought out the help of customer service at Thirsties, but these abrasions continue. Finally, I bought some BG AIO's and problem is solved. I really liked my Kissaluvs fitteds and Thirsties covers, but I'll only buy BG AIO's from now on.

My daughter is pretty chunky and at 4 months, I'm about to switch her to the medium size. She still fits okay in the small, but now that she's discovered her feet, she can undo the velcro with all her movement. I think her chunky thighs are to blame! I use them with the Indian prefolds. Four covers per size are enough. Overall, these are great covers and I will keep buying!

We have since switched to the Flip and BG (wanted a one-size option), but I liked these covers a lot. My son went through two sets (x-small and small), and aside from the fact that it was hard to get stains out of the gussets, I don't have any major complaints. (FWIW, I discovered that Dr. Bronner's unscented liquid soap did a GREAT job of getting stains out of the gussets. Wish I'd learned this sooner.) We put the first set through the washer and dryer, and this seemed to make them wear out pretty quickly (still usable, but sort of beat-up). With the second set, I line-dried them, and they're in great shape. I'd advise avoiding the dryer whenever possible.)

After buying several for both kids and using them a little less than a year I am replacing all of them with a different cover. The velcro is coming off, laundry tabs have come off completely on one cover nearly tearing the PUL, inner gussets are loose and several other problems. They still don't leak, but I can't have the velcro fall apart on me. I used these a lot, so maybe that's the problem. But I was hoping I wouldn't be paying another chunk of money for a bunch of covers less than a year after getting a bunch. I won't even be able to sell them cause of all the problems with them. I wanted and did love these for a while. But I wouldn't recommend them to anyone using them as their only cover choice. They are only good for part time use so as not to wear them out in 6-8mn. It's really sad they last such a short time cause they work AWESOME when they are in good shape. I am unwilling to give them a straight 1 or a straight 5. A 3 seems appropriate since they do work for a little while and they work well for that short period of time.

I haven't used a wide variety of covers, but these have been in use on two boys for 6 mos. I got 3 in each size, and have been reasonably happy with how they function with prefolds. My biggest frustration has been when they first move into a size - the PUL is thinner than say a Bummis SuperBright, which I used for a while as well. With the Thirsties, I have a problem with buckling at the waist, and the velcro irritating baby's belly. It didn't seem to be as much of a problem with the (seemingly better made) Bummi's SB. I also think the waist elastic tends to wear out faster, making it harder to get a good fit on my older boy, who runs about 50th percentile. I get wicking at the waist quite a bit at night, even with two PF's in the cover, and clothing waistbands seem to work their way down and wick out pee. *sigh* I don't know if this is the nature of PF's and covers, or if I'm just doing something wrong. I hand wash the covers and hang dry, have put them in the dryer just a few times. They do hold some stink, I've been soaking them with a bit of BacOut, dish detergent and either baking soda or borax and that works well. Maybe if I had more covers to rotate it wouldn't be so bad. I would buy this cover again, but I'm going to try the Bummi's SB for a while to see how they do in comparison.

These are the best cover I have found. I like their cut, the gussets are great, they are trim, and they don't wick. They go nicely over very thin, trim, thick, full-cut, any kind of diaper. I've used them with all sorts of fitteds as well as snappied, pinned, and trifolded prefolds, and I always like them. I never reach for any other covers anymore.

I have a newborn girl and an almost 2 year old boy. They work great! I haven't had any leaks or blowouts. My 2 year old loves to pick out his own 'underware'. There are so many great colors! I use with cotton pre-folds, and cotton-fitted diapers. To clean, I wash on cold with my dark clothes. I line dry them to keep them nice longer. Absolutely wonderful covers! I plan to use them until my daughter potty trains!

I received these covers and they fit perfectly--medium for 20 lbs. I washed them with CD detergent and dried in dryer on low. I found it odd that the cover fits low on my moderately chubby son's thighs. I loosened the waist. The first wear was over night. I used an Indian prefold with a flannel doubler. By morning his diaper and doubler were soaked front to back and all the way through and the cover leaked at the waist due to heavy wetting and likely the loose fit of the waist. The problem I have with this cover is that it left deep indentations on his thighs. These will probably not work well for a mobile baby with this type of fit. My recommendation is if you purchase several of these to only wash and try one so that you can return the others if it doesn't work out for you.

I love these diaper covers!!! I have a 16lb 5 month old baby girl and she has the most explosive bf poops and these diapers do a superb job at containing the mother loads. When we travel we change over to disposables and leaks a majority of the time. The gussets work wonders to prevent leaks. The sizing is very adjustable to a growing baby. I started out with the Indian pre-folds and 2 extra small covers when she was born at 7lbs. I liked them so much I added 4 size smalls to the rotation and she still fits in all of them. They are very affordable and come it so many cute colors.

I love my Thirsties covers. I haven't had any leaks, even though my baby is exclusively breastfed and has blown out of the prefold underneath. The Thirsties cover kept everything contained. They are so easy to wash and they air dry really quick, so you can save on wear and tear in the dryer. I air dry mine and if I need them quick I just throw them in the dryer for under 5 minutes and POOF! they are dry.

I bought a variety of covers to start with, and the small size of these was way too big for our daughter, who was two pounds smaller than we had expected. Up until last week, I was sure that the Bummis super whisper wraps were my favorite, and then my daughter started being able to fit the Thirsties. I absolutely LOVE them! My daughter is just under ten pounds at two months, and the size small fits her better than the Bummis, even at the legs with her tiny frame, I just have to make sure and overlap the fasteners. They are also holding up much better with washings than any of the other wraps I have tried. This is the ONLY wrap I will be buying from now on. I will probably have to order more wraps before my daughter outgrows these, simply because the Bummis are already starting to wear significantly.

I just started cloth diapering a few months ago. I didn't know what to get, so a got a little of everything. The thirsties dieaper covers are by far my favorite covers (compared to bummies, and 'old school' plastic pants). My two favorite things about them, are they don't retain odor when wiped off, and they are not as big or bulky. Hope this is helpful.

I love these covers. They are very cute and have always prevented BF poop blowouts. We use them with the Kissaluvs contours which do leak big blowouts, so the cover is all that is keeping them in! I would give them a five-star rating, but we have had urine leakage. I think my son is a soaker, though (no std for comparison, but I'm pretty sure!), so if your kid isn't, it shouldn't be a problem. The size range seems more generous than the charts indicate as well. My son is 4 months old and about 15 lbs and still fits into the XS easily (though if your child is in this range get the S because they will fit now and last you longer). He is a skinny kid - no chubby thighs - but I'm still impressed! Hope this helps! (Oh, and if you need to prevent overnight leakage, we have used the bum genius one-size-fits-all with both inserts overnight with great success.) Hope this helps!

Why aren't all diapers designed like this cover? No leaks, ever, super thin and not bulky or crunchy, excellent velcro closure that washes well (much better than bumgenius velcro, btw), pretty cute in its simplicity. We use these over bamboo fitteds, or when we are behind on laundry we just put some pocket inserts in these and use them like old-fashioned cloth diapers with this cover. Even though we mostly use pocket diapers, this is an excellent backup to have around. It is so thin and light it doesn't add any bulk over the fitteds. The best feature (aside from never failing): it has an extra little panel in the thigh to keep snug around our son's chunky thigh, unlike other diapers in which pulling the waist tighter results in a poor around-the-thigh fit. Love these. If I were starting again, especially on a budget, I wouldn't hesitate to go with prefolds or fitteds and couple thirsties covers.

The x-small size were *almost* too big for my 6lb, 5 oz baby, but I am able to overlap the velcro tabs when fastening (which you can't do on Proraps) and make them work. Our son is almost 2 months old, and I imagine the XS will last us quite a while yet. The colors are great. Overall an excellent value for the money. We prefer them to the Whisper Wraps, primarily because of the gussets. The only complaint I have is that the velco often gets stuck on the white edges and sometimes even rips it.

We use bummis as well, but definitely prefer these on most occasions. The size small is definitely for a 12-20 lb baby. The quality is only ok though. The stitching came out of one of the corners of the gussets after my 2nd wash. Not a big problem. I was able to do a couple quick stitches and its fine again. Its great because it can be used with a few diaper changes. Its very thin (great for our 100+ degree summers) and comes in very cute colors. Even with the ok quality, I would still buy more. All the pros outweigh the only con for me.

I have made major issues with these covers because they leak so bad. I don't think we ever had a time that they didn't leak. What I've noticed is that the seam where the leg gussets are sewn to the cover leak out urine. So you're thinking the gussets are supposed to hold everything in, when actually that's where the majority of the leaking took place. Not happy with these covers at all.
