Baby Carriers: Maya Wrap FAQ
How do I set the colors in my Maya Wrap?
Soak your sling in the sink in cold water with a solution of 4 tablespoons of salt and 4 tablespoons of vinegar. Rinse the sling until the water
runs clear. Hang it to dry over a door.
How do I wash my Maya Wrap?
Wash your sling in cold water (it can be washed in the washer). However, do not put it in the dryer! It will shrink. The medium slings are just
the right length to hang nicely over the edge of a door. It usually takes about 24 hours for the sling to dry completely.
I need to find a way to pad the rings (or shorten the tail) of my sling. Is there a good way to do that?
Absolutely! Once you have your child in the sling and it has been tightened securely, wrap the tail of your sling around the front of the rings and then
through the back towards your shoulder.
Why do Maya Wraps have such a long tail?
The tail is to be used as a breastfeeding coverup.
I am 5'6" and my husband is 6'1" tall. We are both of average weight. Can we use the same sling?
The Maya Wrap was designed with a long tail to provide the mom with a built-in breastfeeding coverup. This excess fabric
will be more than sufficient to reach around your husband. He doesn't need a long tail because he isn't breastfeeding!
What is the weight limit for Maya Wraps?
We recommend an upper weight limit of 35 pounds (16 kilos) . This is based on concern for the adult's back and balance.
Both the Sling and the Pouch are capable of supporting well over 100 pounds.
Are the dyes used in your fabrics safe?
Maya Wrap has a certificate from the manufacturer stating that the dyes used to make Maya Wrap Baby Carriers do not contain any copper, nickel, lead, mercury, cadmium, cobalt, aluminum, arsenic, chromium or any other poisonous substance.
I was told that my Maya Wrap would slip when my baby got older? Is that true? Does the fabric slip?
This is not true. The fabric will not slip and the rings will not break. Maya Wraps are rated as safe for babies up to 35 pounds.
If the fabric does begin to slip, it should be spread out evenly in the rings to make sure that it is not improperly threaded or wadded
up into a ball. However, I personally do not recommend using the sling with a baby this heavy for more than short periods of time.
You may occasionally see moms with the tail of their sling wrapped around the rings. They do this to pad the rings NOT to keep the sling
from slipping.
Did Maya Wrap have a recall?
Yes. Maya Wrap had a recall on Maya Wrap Slings with 1/8" rings purchased between Jan 1, 2001 and July 31, 2002. Rings that 1/4" thick were not recalled. Recalled Slings do not have lot numbers in them. If you think you may have a recalled sling please contact Maya Wrap to arrange for repair.
If you purchased your sling from Cotton Babies or Birth Your Way doula services, your sling was NOT recalled.
