Bummis Diaper Totes Reviews (19) Write Review Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Megan on Friday 13 November, 2009I am surprised by the mixed reviews as I am very happy with this product. We bought ours in Jan 2008 and have been using it since...so nearly two years. Still seems to have the waterproof lining as there are no wet spots on the steps to the basement where I keep it. I wash it with the diapers every time - never dry it but it dries in like an hour so that's no big deal (We use Allen's detergent). We now have a 7mo old and a 2.5yo in diapers so it gets a lot of use with all manner of poop too. We have one xlarge bag and if there are a few diapers, I just set them where the bag goes and then throw them in after the bag has dried. I don't put it in a pail.
I think that maybe what folks aren't doing is that you have to completely pull the drawstring all the way SHUT and then the smell doesn't come out! Again, no leaks here. I am also not one to use like a toilet wash to get the poop out so if the poop doesn't flick out, I just throw it in the bag. Still no smell to the bag for us. Great Product. Rating: [4 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Jamie on Saturday 03 October, 2009 Although these bags work well, I have to agree that the one I bought most recently does tend to hold an odor, even after washing as directed. I bought another one of these bags about 7 months ago and that one does not hold an odor, but it is wearing out now. These bags do their job and work well, but since they get washed so often do not expect them to last more than about 6-8 months without breaking down. Overall I am happy with the product. Rating: [1 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Tamar on Wednesday 23 September, 2009 I've been using these bags for about 9 months now. I have two large ones for the pail and two for the diaper bag. They get very heavy usage and I wash each about twice a week. After about 5 months of use the plastic coating inside started stripping off and as a result moisture started seeping through. Now after 9 months of use they are totally not waterproof at all and I'm looking for a replacement. I would definetely not buy these again. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Rachele on Wednesday 26 August, 2009 I use the blue large bag. I fits a smaller step pail that I bought from babies r us. It is the right size for 2 days worth of Bumgenius AIO diapers, liners & wipes. I wash it every time I wash diapers ( every 2 days) and hang dry it. I have never ever noticed a smell with the bag. Even after I had it for awhile I took a good wiff of it after washing and I just don't smell anything. No leaks, love it! Rating: [2 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Jennifer on Tuesday 04 August, 2009 Fits the maximum capacity pail well but holds a TERRIBLE smell. I have considered just throwing it away and not using any liner at all since I love the pail and this is the only liner that I have found to fit it. Rating: [4 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Melissa on Tuesday 12 May, 2009 I now have 2 XXL bummis totes for my diaper bin, and started with one. Tried getting by without it but I definatly recommend getting two, otherwise you'll have dirty diapers sitting around waiting for your tote to dry, and that's not fun at all.
It seems very durable, I've had no problems with it, I wash it every time i wash the diapers, and hang dry it, the XXL size fits perfect in the diaper bin I got on this site. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Theresia on Sunday 12 April, 2009 I have the large blue bag and it fits nicely in an inexpensive diaper pail I bought at babiesrus. I throw it in the washer and dryer along with the diapers and have no issues with smells or leaking. The size is odd though, I wish it was longer and less square. Rating: [3 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by C. on Monday 22 December, 2008 Really ugly but works great. Never had a leak. Easy to wash, easy to dry. I was expecting more of a "tall bag" when it (x large) was more of a "square" bag. Rating: [1 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Rebekah on Tuesday 10 June, 2008 I didn't like this product, and am so sad that it cost me so much only to find that it's a pain. I bought the largest one for the diaper pail that I bought here on cottonbabies. The problem is that it's a STRUGGLE to get the lip of the bag around the mouth of the pail. The other problem I have is the smell. The pail doesn't stink up the house, but the bag really hangs on to odors even after washing twice, and drying outside. I do not recommend this one! Rating: [3 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Christine on Friday 25 April, 2008 We have for about 2 years been using extra large bags for in our diaper pail, and small bags for in the diaper bag. I love the extra large bags. No leaking or anything, and for half the time we have washed and dried them on hot with the diapers.
The small bags are another story, though. The dimensions are just wrong. They are long and narrow, so you can't just throw the dirty diaper in, you have to fold or roll it up pretty small to get it into the neck of the bag. Other bags that are not so narrow are much less gross.
The rating is an average of a very good rating for the larger bags and a mediocre rating for the small bags. Rating: [1 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Michelle on Saturday 19 April, 2008 Horrible product. We had one barely damp diaper in the bag for less than half of a day and the smell was terrible. We washed the diaper once and it was fine, but it took 5 washings of the bag to get the smell out of it. Rating: [2 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Leah on Saturday 12 April, 2008 I have the large bag for my diaper pail (also from Cotton babies). It does a great job of containing odors but over the past 8 months the drawstring area at the top of the bag has shrunk, making it difficult to fit around the top of the diaper pail. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by jennifer on Monday 17 March, 2008 I have the large one just sitting on my bathroom floor, next to the toilet that has the sprayer. As long as I pull the drawstring all the way closed, there is no problem with odor. I've never had an issue with leaking either, and I put really wet, sprayed down diapers in there and sometimes don't get them into the laundry for a few days. I don't wash it that often either, only when it's really icky, and when I do, I don't put it in the hot wash with the diapers. I throw it in the warm wash with the waterproof matress pads etc, and hang dry. Same for the small one which is GREAT in the diaper bag. Nice for wet swimsuits or peed on clothes when traveling. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Zakary on Monday 14 January, 2008 With my first child, I used to put my soiled diapers in a plastic grocery bag and put that in the diaper bag. I always wished for something like this! It works great and I haven't had a problem with it at all. I keep it by the bed for nighttime changing as well. Love it! Rating: [3 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Carrie on Monday 07 January, 2008 I have 2 small bags (for travel) and 2 extra large bags for the diaper pail. The Small bags have done well over time (fewer washes). The Extra-Large bags, however have some trouble - wetness seeps out of the bag, and the drawstring area shrunk, making it very difficult to get the bag onto the pail. Rating: [3 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Amanda on Sunday 23 December, 2007 I purchased two red ones for my diaper pail. They aren't waterproof but do hold in the yuck. The bottom leaks a bit after a day. I will not be using them for travel. Rating: [2 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by kristin on Wednesday 03 October, 2007 I bought 2 large Blue bags and 1 small red bag. They worked great until I washed them with my cloth diapers. Every diaper & every insert is now stained blue! (I washed according to instructions) These need to be pre-washed separately before you throw them in with your diapers. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Sarah on Sunday 01 July, 2007 I have 2 of the small ones for my diaper bag. These are the best. They really do contain damp and smell (hate to admit this, but we forgot a diaper for over a week in one of these in the summer, tucked down at the bottom of the diaper bag. When I found it, it was so horrible I was gaging and my eyes watered as I ran it to the wash and the smell lingered for hours. But unopened, that went undetected sitting in our kitchen on the floor). They wash well and dry fast on the line. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Jennifer on Tuesday 29 May, 2007 My Bummis tote is an essential in my diaper bag. I really recommend that every cloth diapering mom get at least get at least one small tote. View all 19 reviews |
