Thirsties Duo Wrap Reviews (35) Write Review Rating: [4 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Elaine on Sunday 18 July, 2010I love the fit on these and the gussets better than my bummis whisper wraps. It doesn't bunch up between her legs like the bummis. Unfortunately, the size 1 is at the max rise for my 14 lb 3 month old, and while it is ok with a newborn pre fold, it won't accommodate a standard one. I will be surprised if we make it to 18 pounds in this size. Rating: [3 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Rebecca on Saturday 19 June, 2010 I absolutely loved these covers at first. After doing lots of research I chose to buy these for our soon-to-arrive baby. I loved the colors, the velcro option, and that they were adjustable to fit different sizes. After 3.5 months this is what I have discovered: They do not fit up to 18 pounds. My son is about .14 pounds
and they are barely hanging in there. The velcro, as many others have mentioned wears out. When he curls up his legs they pop open. Which is obviously not ideal. I have always used the laundry tabs when I wash them in the machine, but that honestly doesn't happen often because they stain very easily so as soon as he poops I have to get it under the hottest water that I can get out of the faucet and scrub it by hand. This was very irritating because for the first two months he pooped in every diaper, and they were those awful mustard colored poops. The white edging on the cover turns that color and if you don't wash them as soon as he is changed it stays that color for the next five or six washings. in the last couple weeks they have also started to be less than waterproof. they work fine during the day but now that he rolls himself onto his belly to sleep, he leaks through every time he pees.
The things that I still liked were, the adjustable sizes. Since I bought these I have bought some one-size diapers. Their smallest setting is as big as the biggest setting on these size ones, so they would obviously not fit a newborn where as these ones do. I also love the color choices. and the leg gussets, they absolutely hold in the mess. I will still buy them again for the next baby, but I will get the snaps instead of the velcro. I thought they would be harder but after trying some covers with snaps, I actually prefer them. It's just as easy. Rating: [3 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Sandy on Thursday 17 June, 2010 I bought these to fit my 36 pounder. Unfortunately they did not fit him, and he said they were uncomfortable as well. I'm disappointed since these are supposed to handle slightly larger children. I'll try them on my 28 pounder and give a more detailed review later. And if worse comes to worse I'll use them for swimmies with no insert. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Virginia on Thursday 03 June, 2010 This cover fit my baby on the smallest setting when he was 6 pounds. We have had to go to the larger setting, for the GMD yellow edge organic prefolds to fit correctly, and he is 9 pounds and the larger setting fits perfect. I do love this cover and love the aplix version. Rating: [4 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Abby on Tuesday 01 June, 2010 These are well made and waterproof. They are very, very trim and well-designed. The laundry tabs keep the velcro from becoming too pilly. They are small enough to fit a newborn (ours came home at 6 lb 10 oz, with a tiny waist and tiny rump and she fit fine). I do not think, however, that they would fit up to 18 lbs. They are starting to be snug on my 12 lb baby. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by LINDSAY on Thursday 20 May, 2010 I have 5 of these and I really like them. I especially like them because of the leg gussets. My son has thin legs, and these seem to fit a lot better than the covers without gussets. He just turned 1 and he is on the middle setting of the size 2s. So it seems like they will fit until potty training. The only thing I'm worried about is the velcro. I've had them for about 2 months and they seem like they may be losing a little bit of stick. But these do work great and I would definately would recommend these! Rating: [4 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Hilary on Tuesday 18 May, 2010 These are the second covers I reach for behind Flips. The Aplix is good and I like that they start at 6 lbs. The material is a little thin and flimsy to me though. When I pull the snaps apart, it feels like the material is going to rip. The gussets get stained easily too. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Rebecca on Wednesday 05 May, 2010 I forgot to mention in my review that the FLIP disposable inserts work well with these! We do the inserts when we are on week-long vacations. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Rebecca on Wednesday 05 May, 2010 LOVE these! We bought these and the prowraps classics. Our son didn't fit into these very well when he was first born, so these started as our 'back-up' covers. However, once he did fit into them properly, these became our favorites and the other because our 'back-ups'. Eventually we gave up on the 'back-ups' and bought more of these! We own eight. We never put them in the dryer and we haven't had any problems with the velcro wearing out. We have experienced some saturation coming through the legs openings and velco, but when that happened his diaper was so wet there was a puddle inside the cover (he's a really heavy wetter), so I would expect that to happen. Our son is currently almost 17lbs at 4.5 months. We just went to the biggest snap setting. So, we will not make it to 9mo in these, but we will make it to the top of the weight range before having to go to the next size. We plan on purchasing these in the next size because we LOVE them! Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Jonathan on Monday 26 April, 2010 We have been using six of the DUO WRAPS for about three or four months now, and are very happy with them. They are washed with her clothing, not with her pre-folds, are air-dried-almost always-and have weathered the wear just fine. Rating: [3 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Kim on Wednesday 21 April, 2010 Thirsties DUO seemed like a great idea at first. All the goodness of a regular Thirsty (no blow-outs, the gussets are comfortable and allow no leakage, adorable colors) and with adjustable sizes!
But the reality is less than perfect. They work fabulously when new, but like everything that works hard, they wear out. My child has worn her current set of 4 DUOs for about six months now, in rotation. Sorry to say that the laminate on the inside is peeling (leakage!) they mysteriously begun to leak around the gussets, and the snap pulled thru the fabric and tore on one of them. Not great.
Essentially they last about as long as a regular Thirsty, but cost more...so I am going back to the single-size style. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Rachael on Monday 12 April, 2010 Love these covers! We can make them bigger to fit around babe's Goodmamas, or snap them down to fit snugly over his BG Bamboo fitteds. I love that! The leg gussets and the trim fit make it a winner. Rating: [3 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Nancy on Friday 09 April, 2010 This is the DUO cover. New, these covers work GREAT. I wash them a couple of times a week (using no strange ritual) with my prefolds. I never put them in the dryer.
After about three months, conveniently when the warrranty is up, they start to seep around the snaps and the velcro. A wet prefold underneath always results in wet clothing on my son. I change him every hour, because of this, and he still manages to end up with wet spots on his clothes. They are also starting to wick around the leg, getting his pants wet.
Thirsties replaced three of these for the same problem and it just happened again to these three. Otherwise, it has held up nicely and always holds the poop in. I'm very disappointed and need to find another solution after one year of CDing. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Cassaundra on Wednesday 24 March, 2010 I love love love these covers!!! I bought 4 size ones and use only these. I'm selling my fleece, g-diaper and whisper wrap covers be/c they just didn't compare to thristies. I don't mind having to buy the next size up before the recommended time be/c I'm still saving more money with the duo than getting each size by themselves. If velcro wearing out is a problem, they line dry super fast. I've even used a hairdryer on medium for 15 mins to speed up the process while my diapers are washing. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by SHAUNA on Tuesday 23 March, 2010 I love love love these diapers! I use cotton flats instead of prefolds because they are more versatile, and a flat folded into eighths is perfect for a newborn or small baby without the bulk. My daughter is a big wetter, and only after her second month did I have to start putting a hemp doubler behind the flats for extra absorbtion. Since she's been sleeping through the night I have used a Hemp Babies Bigger Weeds prefold in a Bumgenious 2.0 for super extra absorbtion so I don't have to wake her to change her and keep her dry. The only times I've had problems with leaks was when I didn't make sure the flat was tucked in at the leg and when she was over-wetting the diaper before I started putting the hemp doublers in, too. Overall, they are wonderful. I wash and dry them with my diapers using Country Save and never have a problem. The only stain I've encountered was from the wonderful meconium stage and only on one diaper. Since I use the flats I dry them together in less than 15 minutes on air dry. It's wonderful! My fiance and parents use them without a problem, and my father really likes them! He tells all my aunts/uncles/cousins about them on facebook! hahaha. Rating: [3 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Charlotte on Monday 22 March, 2010 I want to love these covers, it's a great idea, the colors are great, but the size 1 is not up to 18lbs or 9 months, my 14lb 4 month old can barely fit in size one now (he still fits in small covers of other brands), and the size 2 is too large on the smallest setting. The Size 2 velcro rubs on his tummy. Also the snaps are hard to adjust. I can't comment on durability since i've only used them for a few months. Because the size isn't working for us we have had the odd leaks. I heard so many good things about thirsties, i'm a little disappointed. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Bethany on Saturday 20 March, 2010 These are another fantastic Thirsties product. They are only available in two sizes, but have snaps to adjust the rise, allowing them to fit a much larger size range. I found that they don’t run quite as large as the regular Thirsties cover. My daughter outgrew her Size 1 Duo Wrap before her size small Thirsties cover. As she started to grow out of it, it made a great cover for fitteds which are more trim. However, given the larger size range. This makes these covers less expensive, if they survive the wear and tear. I have found that they do well. So for just a dollar or two more than the original Thirsties covers, you can diaper your kid for longer. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Barbara on Thursday 18 March, 2010 I love these diaper covers. They keep everything in, which is great when my bf baby has one of his bigger poos. They fit great and he's only 7 lbs 5 oz. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Barbara on Thursday 04 March, 2010 I love these diaper covers. There's no bulk to them, and they keep all the ick in. The size 1 fit my 7 lb 1 week old wonderfully and I plan on buying a few more to keep as back up. Rating: [4 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Meg on Monday 01 March, 2010 These are my favorite covers of the 5 or 6 we've tried. Yes, there's some wear at the velcro but I've had no problems of damage. I wash them at least twice a week. These covers, with a tri fold and doubler last all night with no leaks at all. The only time we've had a leak it was the diaper itself sticking out the back a bit. I think this is the best diaper for your money. The more expensive diaper covers we have seem more stylish, perhaps, but they're no better at their job. We will be buying only Thirsties Duo Wraps and Bummis Whisper Pants for our babies. View all 35 reviews |
