This product can be described as nothing less than a miracle! I had inverted nipples with my firs baby (which have since corrected and not gone back in) and he could not latch on as a newborn. Without this I may have had to give up on breast feeding (which would have been heartbreaking!) all I can say in warning though is you MUST have more than one and it is difficult for baby to go to just your breast when they become used to using the nipple sheild. I forgot mine at my mother in law's house once and had to go back in the evening because feeding the baby was impossible. I was finally able to wean him off of it which was the best thing I could do! I recommend weaning the baby off of the sheild and straght to breast as soon as they are able to latch on properly!!!

My son could not latch for some reason and they gave me one of these in the hospital. They worked great! Within a few days he was nursing really well and I never experienced a supply issue with them. (My son doubled his birth weight by two months, so I'm thinking there wasn't a problem!) We ended up buying a couple more so I could always have one handy. And, I was pleasantly surprised when he was almost 4 months when I tried nursing him without the shield on a whim. He went right on and we haven't used one since! I can't imagine how tough it might have been without these to get started with!

I would NOT have been able to breastfeed without a nipple shield! The medela brand is great - I haven't had and supply issues, since it's the new ultra-thin silicone design, and baby is happy and healthy. I also found a great case to store my shield in called a Shield Shell. It keeps my shield clean and safe from my dog and two-year-old son. Also I don't lose my shields like I used to because the case is brightly colored. I ordered one at www.shieldshell.com.

I have very large breasts and large, flat/inverted nipples (one of each), and this was the only way I could get my son to latch on at all. My only problem was that I was given the wrong size, so when my son had managed to pull my nipple all the way out and into his mouth I was in excruciating pain. I wound up exclusively pumping instead, and found out later that I had been given the wrong size. Had I received the correct size it is possible it wouldn't have been an issue. Get sized before you buy these!!

These really were the only thing that kept me breastfeeding after my daughters were born. For some reason, when I start nursing my babies after they are born, I experience pain, bleeding and cracking - NOT fun. I confirmed with numerous nurses and lactation consultants who assured my their latches looked perfect. I was in so much pain while nursing that I would sweat and cry. I read about these online and gave them a try to let myself have a break from direct contact and allow for healing. They were a lifesaver and I very well would probably have quit if not for these. I didn't need them long because my body "toughened up" after healing, and both of my girls had no problem stopping using them. I know mine was not a conventional use of these shields, but they were a lifesaver nonetheless. Highly recommended for expectant moms to have on hand just in case!

I could not get my baby off of these easily. My milk supply went down because these do not allow for a strong latch around the natural nipple which needs compressing to get all of the milk out. I have large breasts with flatter nipples from 2 breast reductions, so they gave me these in the hospital. What a terrible mistake! I also have a friend who had to stop nursing all together due to losing her supply because she couldn't get her baby off of them and onto her natural nipple.

i don't think i would have been able to breast feed without these. a nurse had me try them in the hospital b/c ezra wouldn't latch on. my breasts are really large and flat nipples. we stopped needing them around 7 weeks. at almost 6 months, he nurses like a champ! these really saved us!

These things were exactly what we needed! We had the hardest time getting DD to BF because we went through 2 weeks with sever jaundice and she just wouldn't latch on. My milk supply suffered because of it too. Finally, I got in touch with my nursing consultant and she recommended these! A life saver! I never was able to wean DD off of them but my milk supply stopped around 6 months because of the difficulties between work and not being able to BF that first couple of weeks. But at least with these, I was able to BF while my milk supply lasted!

This nipple shield saved my breastfeeding experience! My son wouldn't nurse for 6 days. I pumped and fed him with a syringe. I went to the lactation consultants twice and tried all the suggestions and my son wouldn't nurse without screaming and fighting. The nipple shield was a last resort. My son latched on and nursed perfectly. I have 2--one for my home and one for my diaper bag. I am slowly weaning him off the shield. He is now 3 months old and I only have to use it for the first morning feed and anytime he is really fussy. I am a physician (Family Practice) and I wouldn't recommend this for just anyone. It should be reserved for the baby that has severe nursing difficulties or the mom that has extremely cracked/sore nipples. Don't give up on breastfeeding. You CAN do it!
