Description

These breast pads were preferred by nursing moms over any other breast pad for absorbency and comfort!

GUIDELINE IN SIZING (with understanding that each woman may have individual preferences):
  • Mini (3.5") - A cup
  • X-Small (5") - A or B cup
  • Small (6") - C or D cup
  • Medium (7") - DD cup or larger

The EKSTRA pads are for women with extra strong "let-down" reflexes or heavy leakage. Larger sizes have felted wool only in area where most needed, to avoid extra bulk in your bra. XS: Two layers of felted wool; Small & Medium: One layer of felted wool sewn between two layers of original wool.

The nursing pads, as all LANA products, are made of untreated merino wool, which still contains its natural lanolin. They can absorb up to 40% of their own weight without feeling wet. When the pads do start to feel wet, the feeling is that of warmth, not cold and clammy, as with other pads. As the wool absorbs moisture, lanolin is converted to lanolin-soap, which has an antibacterial effect. It keeps the wool clean, fresh and hygienic.

For most women, two pairs are all you'll ever need. When one pair feels wet, let it dry while wearing the other pair. The lanolin is activated and cleans the wool as it dries. The moisture evaporates away and only the milk solids are left. Eventually, depending upon how much leakage you have, you'll feel the center of the pad get "stiff" or you'll notice white powdery milk spots. First then, will you need to wash them. Wash by hand in lukewarm water with mild hair shampoo or LANA Lanolin Soap. See Care Instructions.

The larger size of the pads stems from advice Scandinavian midwives and nurses have long given to mothers - "keep your breasts warm to prevent plugged ducts". My feeling is that the mild warmth keeps blood vessels dilated and "everything flowing". Although there is no documentation that I'm aware of, I know of cases where this seems to hold true. I knew of one woman who claimed that she couldn't go out to her mailbox without wearing her (medium sized) pads or she developed plugged ducts! As a lactation consultant, I'm aware of the many concrete causes for this problem, but I feel that if a woman is doing everything right, and still has a tendency to develop plugged ducts, that these pads may help. In either case, they feel extremely soothing and comfortable against tender breasts. In addition, the natural wool fibers pull moisture away from skin, keeping it dry and able to breathe, allowing sore nipples to heal. Many women in Denmark, where LANA products are well-known, begin wearing the pads during pregnancy, claiming that breastfeeding, as a consequence, has gone more smoothly.

Once you’re no longer nursing, here are some creative ways to use your nursing pads... They’ve been tested and suggested by customers!

For coughs & colds: Place nursing pad inside the shirt directly against skin to help relieve cough, especially at nighttime.
For menstrual cramps: Place nursing pad directly against skin, covering your lower abdomen. The warmth helps to relieve pain from cramping.
For back aches: Place nursing pad directly against skin, covering lower back, with help of your waistband to hold it in place. The warmth promotes circulation and relieves muscular pain.

Comes with 1 pair of 100% Merino Wool LANA Breast Pads

I love these breast pads. I initially used flannel washable ones, and leaked through all the time. They also smelled bad by the end of the day. These are very comfortable, soft and absorbent. Am ordering my second pair today so I can have a set to wear while washing the other. They wash well, still feel like new. Used the lanolin soap.

I have spent so much money on many types of nursing pads and I wish I had found these first. These wool nursing pads are AMAZING!! I thought they would be scratchy, but they are NOT and I cannot stand wool sweaters. They absorb so much, I have never once leaked with these and that is a miracle because I have leaked with all the other nursing pad that I have tried. Also, don't be concerned about these making you feel too hot, they are sincerely so comfortable you won't even notice them. BUY TWO PAIRS AND IT WILL BE THE ONLY NURSING PADS YOU NEED!

These breast pads are SUPER soft, but even with the extra $6 for the ekstra, I still leak through them. After washing, they seem to be a little more absorbant, but not what I expected. Along with these I bought a couple of pairs of the milk weeds pads, and wish I would have saved the $20 I spent on these for three more pairs of those. These pads would work if I had about five pairs, they are really soft, but don't seem to be able to contain my leaks like the cheaper, reusable ones.

After reading many reviews when my daughter was newborn, I decided to order a pair of the Ekstras. They are my favorite (I also have some which are not wool, that I now use as a standby when woolies are drying). They ARE large but they shape perfectly to the contour of the breast and so are NOT noticeable under even light cotton tees. Extremely comfortable and soft; no complaints in any season for any reason! Easy to wash and care for. Highly recommended for any breastfeeding mother. The cost is paid for after two months (if you compare what would be spent on throw-aways, which I hated to use but had to twice during a bout of thrush).

I love that these are comfortable, warm, soft, and don't retain milk odor. But I leak through them every time I leak. I am sitting here now with a soaked bra and a relatively dry breast pad. I don't know if it just transfers the moisture or what. At least, I'm very comfortable while I have a wet, leaky boob mark at work. But with the expense of these, I'd probably opt for the cotton next time, which I don't leak through even though I feel wet and more uncomfortable with a leak.

I was rather disappointed with these. I bought two pairs at $30/pair and I leak through them everytime I wear them. I don't think that them staying warm is a good thing either because you don't know you've leaked through to your shirt until you are totally saturated. Plus, the fibers stuck to my nipples like crazy and I had to wipe them off before feeding my son. Was definitely not worth the money in my oppinion. They should put some kind of leak proof material on one side so they absorb more evenly instead of leaking straight through in one spot.

I purchased the x-small to go with my 36c cup demi-cup all cotton t-shirt style underwire bra. They completely fill the cups. These pads are super comfortable, look great in the bra, and DO NOT smell like spoiled milk like my disposable pads did at the end of the day. I cannot believe it. I have been using my pair every other day, and a week later, I still have not needed to wash them. I am waiting for my second pair to arrive.

Best ever! I loved them so much I bought a second pair. I used to wake up with my cotton breastpads soaked through so heavily that my nightgown was wet to my waist. Not anymore. I was scared they'd feel scratchy, but these pads are sooo soft, comfortable and warm. --I wish the reviewer who didn't like them would mail me hers!! ;)

Baby finally arrived, so I finally got to try these out. So far, I like them a lot. She wasn't a good latcher at first, so I couldn't use them when I had bleeding on my nipples (everything would stick to them, so I had to keep them lubed with lanolin & use cotton pads during that phase). Now that she is a better nurser, and I am all healed I have used them quite a bit. I ordered the small, and they are really big pads! It works out pretty well though, I don't have them slipping around in my bra, they are so large they stay put much better (and they don't show through your clothes like smaller ones do). I did leak right through them a couple times at night, but I have always had too much milk - so that probably isn't the norm. I think I will order a pair of the extra small for these summer months, but will get them with the extra absorbency feature. The larger size I have will be super for winter, as my milk flow should regulate by then too. Overall, I would (and already have) recommend them to any nursing mother. I even told my lactation nurses about them in the hospital! Cottonbabies.com is the BEST and I have always had stellar service from them, I am more than willing to recommend them.

These are a lifesaver for me. I ordered two pair of the Medium with Ekstra. At first, I was put off by the price, but they have been completely worth it. They are soft, though I found them a little itchy when I started using them, but all wool is itchy to me. I quickly got used to it and now they are very comfortable. They are much larger than other types of pads so they do not show through most clothing. I gave birth in the spring and these bad boys got me through several cold snaps. I don't know if many other women experience pain when their breasts get cold, but I do. I can imagine how useful they will be in the winter. I've only had them leak a couple of times when my nipple wasn't on the center of the pad. And even then, it's wasn't that bad. Just dampness, not a real wet spot. I once misplaced my clean set and used another reusable set of pads I received as a gift. I soaked through the cotton pair after just one feeding and they felt cold and slimy against my skin. It was then I realized how awesome the Lana breast pads are.

I purchased two the Exstra pads before the birth of my second child, since I had severe OALD and OS while nursing my first baby. I loved these nursing pads! Soft and warm, and they were able to stand up to the firehose letdown and overproduction I have for months on end at the beginning of nursing. Having suffered many blocked ducts during the 22 months I nursed my first baby, I was pleased to find that I have had, so far, fewer blocked ducts the second time around. When new moms ask me for recommendations for nursing pads, I tell them about these ones. And I'm looking forward to using them while nursing our next baby, due in December!

I was disappointed with these pads. I invested $24.99 in the EKSTRA pads, but leaked through in less than 20 minutes! There is no way these would be able to hold "extra strong "let-down" reflexes or heavy leakage." In addition, the fibers dried to my nipples, forcing me to peel the pad off my skin leaving wool fibers stuck to my nipple. I wish I could return them.

I just got my 2 pair of these in the mail this week and I love them already. They're super soft, they stretch to conform to your shape, and show through is low. I like the size also, they cover everything they can (which helps reduce the show-through) and still fit inside my bra. They don't itch and I haven't had any over-heating problems either. I am almost done nursing my daughter, but I look forward to wearing these through weaning and my next baby.

I just received these and I'm so thankful for them! The only thing that makes me sad is I'm breastfeeding my second child. I wish I would've found these sooner! I ordered 2 pair and the LANA wash. I'm so thrilled and can't believe I wasted money on disposables. The other cloth ones I used stuck to my breast and it was painful. Thank you cotton babies for such a great product.
