Cloth Diaper 101
a comprehensive resource
about cloth diapers!
Description

Like Kissaluvs fitted diapers, Kissaluvs contour (aka, "shaped") diapers give you quality fabrics and terrific fit over a wide size range. An economical alternative to fitted diapers, contours are easy to use... just lay inside a snug-fitting wrap, and you're all set. The long wings give you the option of pinning the diaper for use under any type of cover or wrap*.

A contour diaper is like a flat diaper that has been cut in at the legs and shaped at the top to form tabs. There isn't any elastic at the legs (so no potential for red marks). Contours are similar in function to prefolds but easier to use. Unbleached Kissaluvs contours are comparable in absorbency to Kissaluvs fitteds. You can't beat the lower price and ease of use.

See how the attached doubler of the Kissaluvs Contour Cloth Diaper gives you room to adjust the front flap?
What makes Kissaluvs contour diapers so nice?
  • Textured fabrics that help contain messes
  • Uniquely sewn-in soaker/doubler for fast drying time
  • Thick, absorbent fabric where you need it, not where you don't, for a very trim fit
  • Long wings for room to pin*, if you're so inclined
  • A simple, adjustable design that lets you fold down or tuck the front of the diaper to adjust the rise
  • Attached doubler that stays put, no flopping around or awkward adjustments
  • The same awesome fabrics and colors of our fitted diapers
  • The quality fabrics and construction you expect from Kissaluvs, in an economical alternative to our luxurious fitted diapers
Be sure to check out our Kissaluvs Contour package deal!
* Diaper fabric is a thick knit. Pinning or using a Snappi fastener may eventually snag the fabric.

Made in the USA.

I received a six pack of these as a baby shower gift. I had read mixed reviews, but like how affordable these were and hoped they would be easier to use than prefolds. I should have listened to the reviews. These are not worth the additional money. They aren't very absorbent and they leak poo out the legs. Thanks to Thirsties covers I really got a leak onto my daughters clothing, but they were still frustrating to deal with. I ended up using them as backups when I was running low on diapers or washing diapers. Prefolds are a more economical choice, they leak less and are just as easy to use once you get used to them.

My son is a VERY heavy wetter and would wet through any type of diaper within an hour or so...until we tried the contours. They are very trim fitting, not like some of the other diapers we've had, and they really absorb! I haven't had any problems with leakage or blow-outs! I pair these with a thirsties cover and he's good to go :)

These diapers are not as bad as some say if you pre-wash them correctly/ use the doublers. i never had a problem with blowouts if i used the right cover, i mean they're not gusseted so of course its going to come out a bit.. i personally had a problem with them being too small on my daughter, i bought the m/l and she was only 7 months old and they were hardly fitting. hope this helps!

I got the package and they all look like the one in the bottom of the picture. Cute looking but I may as well have wrapped a towel around my baby. Not even 3 months old and he leaked all the way through in just under 20 minutes! It was soaking, he can't hold too much fluid but it sure looked like it. I'm sticking with the Bum Genius All In Ones.

I don't know what people are talking about with leaks and blowouts! My daughter is the poop queen, and she soaks through a disposable in just a couple hours with pee, bu we've NEVER had a leak or a blowout in a Kissaluvs Contour. We used pre-folds before, and they were SO bulky. I love, love, love the trimness and fit of these diapers, they're AWESOME!

These diapers are a blow-out... literally a poopy blow-out! I bought a lot of these thinking they would be a step up from a prefold, but my 2 month old (14 lbs) can no longer wear them because they leak poo terribly. They are cute, but only usable when he is definetly not going to poo, otherwise I have to wash the cover and often the outfit too. Boo!

I want to love these diapers - but even the small ones are too big for my kids. They were 6 lbs at birth, it's two weeks later and they are swimming in these. Only buy these if your babies are over 8 lbs.

I got 6 of these and I can not even use them. They can be on my daughter for 10 min and they leak through her Thirsties cover, it's strange cause she can be in a prefold and cover for hours and not leak at all only with these contours.

I love these diapers! I prefer these over my indian prefolds. They are much easier to use my wiggly newborn then prefolds. They are very absorbent and they are even my husband's favorite.

Love, love, love these diapers! I have tried many different diapering options, and these are my favorite! They are very absorbent (I've even used them at nap time) and don't make my daughters bum too bulky! The price is right, too!

Oh god how I love these diapers! The fit has been great so far from 8.5lbs at birth to 11.5lbs at 2 months. I expect that we'll still be using these diapers at the 20lb mark that the manufacturer claims to be the upper weight limit for size small. We like to use a very trim fitting Prowrap cover or a Bummi Swimmi as a cover. Getting a trim fit on the cover really makes these diapers work fantastic. I find that some of our looser fit covers don't do as good a job at helping these diapers absorb. With a looser cover, our son's legs get damp sometimes and he complains. Now I know that some of the reviewers have complained but all of the complaints are things that are easily fixable. First off, if you haven't prepped the diapers when purchased by washing the diapers around 8-10 lbs, then these diapers won't be absorbant. Next, many people complain about these diapers leaking; the solution is to just put a small fold in at the legs when you put them on your baby. Lastly for that complaint about smells; buy some Biokleen Bac-Out and soak all your diapers for about 12 hours with 3 tablespoons of Bac-out and 3 tablespoons of detergent. Do this once a month and there will be NO smells. If you ever have poop stains, these diapers like most take well to a little time out in the sun to bleach out the stains.

When I first got these I loved them because they were so soft, but they became a little rough after I washed them. They work well for me, but hold in the smell in the middle seam. I will probably just stick with Indian pre-folds!!

I got some of these as well as prefolds to use with a Bummis cover. They do fine for just pee, but poop is a disaster. It leaks everywhere and is a nightmare. I have tried everything, but I always end up with an outfit change and poop everywhere. It looks like I will only be using them when I can predict a no poop experience.

I have been using these diapers for about 2 months now and I LOVE them! A couple pointers: 1) Diapers need to be "prepped" before they reach full absorbancy. If you haven't washed your diapers about 8-10 times and you are getting leaks that may be part of the reason. 2) Because there is less bulk these diapers tend to "gap" around the legs. If baby is laying on his/her side the pee will go straight out of the diaper. I fixed this by folding/tucking the edges in around the legs. 3) I used these with both bummis and proraps. They worked best with bummis.

These are okay, and if you want to use a snappi and pull-on pant, these would certainly be easier than a pre-fold. But if you are using a diaper cover, they aren't really any easier, but a lot more expensive. I also don't like the seam down the middle- it tends to trap the poop and even after washing there's still sometimes a bit in that seam. I would recommend either spending a bit more, and getting the fitted ones, which really are nice, and hold more in, or just going with the indian pre-folds.

These are great! Super absorbant and very trim. No experience yet with them on poo, our daughter is pretty predictable and we avoid that. A snug fitting cover is key with these. Some have complained about having to change the diaper after "only" one wetting but as we don't leave our daughter in a wet diaper (yuck!) that is not a problem for us.

I found these diapers to be very absorbent - love the sewn-in doubler! But, dirty diapers are messy; these do not contain the poo. The diaper cover always gets dirty. I'm disappointed, and probably won't buy more of them. But they are great for wet-only diapers, if you can predict in advance.
