AWARD WINNING! bumGenius 3.0 DELUXE All-In-One Cloth Diapers Reviews (33) Write Review Rating: [4 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Werona on Monday 26 July, 2010I loved my bumGenius - both AIO and pockets. However, my 14 month old is now 32lbs and I can only just get them on him. When I do he takes them off within minutes. I do not regret spending the money on these when I did, but I wish they came in a bigger size, or even better, came up in a "pull-up" as he's unable to pull down his diapers still. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by CB on Thursday 01 July, 2010 We purchased AIO’s (extra smalls) once we figured out that kissaluvs & prefolds were too bulky for our bity baby who was a month early @ 6lbs. They were big at first but fit until she was 6mo old+. As a first time mama to cloth diapering these diapers hooked me. PROS: No stuffing/un-stuffing of liners which is great when you are sleep deprived with a new baby, easy to clean, never got stinky, never leaked (exclusively breastfed), Velcro held up great, trim fit, no rashes, easy for dad & grandparents to use, worth every penny for quality & convenience. My husband was nervous about cloth diapering but found these extremely easy to use and is now a big fan.
The only con is the length of time they take to line dry. If you live in a dry climate then you are in luck, they will line-dry overnight. If you live somewhere humid be prepared to use the dryer.
We have hard water where we live and adding ½ cap of Calgon Water Softener (detergent aisle) along with Ecos Free & Clear-unscented detergent, kept our diapers from holding stains and stink. There was an occasional stain but the sun bleached them right out. We have now graduated to BG OS and love them! Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Bobbie on Wednesday 30 June, 2010 I have been using these diapers for a few weeks now and I love them! The fit my 12wk old great (size small). They are so easy, If I had know I would have used the for my older daughter as well. Good bye disposables! Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Shawn on Tuesday 11 May, 2010 We got the mediums when my baby was about 2 months old and I remember they looked pretty big on her but didn't leak or anything. By the time she was 4 months they fit great. The really amazing thing though, is that they still fit at 16 months. I'm thinking they might work until potty training (if she is successful at an early age). I also use the OS, both regular and organic snaps and I like them all. I do use the dryer and they are holding up great. I also give them a last whole wash cycle on cold in stead of just an extra rinse. I think I do like the snaps best but prefer the AIO style. No problems at all with velcro holding up though. Rating: [4 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Michelle on Tuesday 04 May, 2010 I do like these diapers. The pros: easy to use, no stuffing (or unstuffing for laundering). The cons: long drying times (even when turned inside out), after using for 4 months I have noticed they retain smells even w/ washing according to instructions and therefore require stripping once a month, my daughter has just about outgrown her smalls even though she is only 13 pounds (weight range says up to 16). I have been using the 3.0 OS for past 2 years on my niece and love them also.
My next purchase will be for OS. The AIOs were invaluable during my first few months when I just needed to get the hang of being a new mom and didn't want to worry about taking extra time to stuff diapers, etc. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Katherine on Friday 09 April, 2010 I don't see many posts regarding toddlers, so I will put in my review for that. I originally thought I would only try CD'ing for my 21 lb 10 month old. When I saw how easy this was I decided to try it with my 35lb, 40 inch tall, 2.5 yo. Since he is soooo long and lean I was sure no diaper rated to 30 lbs would work, but it does. It is bulky in the crotch when I first put it on, but it softens up in just minutes and it fits him just fine and contained his large and fairly large poops. Plus, he is a very heavy wetter and it lasted over 2 hours after breakfast on him with no leaks, not even close to leaking. I only changed it because he pooped. The liner felt so dry even though I could tell he had wetted at least once. I never thought this would work for both of them, but its great. I also have a few of the OS on order, and since they rate to 35 ibs, I am very optimistic that I can do this with both boys. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Sarah on Saturday 20 March, 2010 I purchased these diapers in a size large for my toddler, (32 lbs. with small hips) to compare them to the one size. I found that they fit slightly larger in the rise, and maybe a couple inches larger in the waist, which also gives more room for the thighs.
The soaker is narrower than the one size, so they are not as absorbent. Still, the diapers are extremely absorbent, and as long as I changed by 3 hours they worked for us.
My favorite part however is that the soaker is sewn in, so no stuffing, but also the soaker will not bunch up when it is wet. Because my son wet small amounts frequently, in many of his other diapers the soaker would bunch up and then he would wet around it. I like the look a lot better too, without the rise snaps on the front.
I did not own a dryer, and as long as it was sunny and dry they dried ok, I also kept hung them on the line inside-out.
I'm planning to buy these again "next time", but only as seconds or on sale to help offset the cost. I would also prefer snaps. Rating: [4 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Bethany on Tuesday 16 March, 2010 I absolutely loved these in XS for my newborn. Since she was born at 8 pounds they didn't fit for very long, but they were very trim and convenient for going out. I thought I would use disposables when I was away from home, but these made it so easy to use cloth when away from home. Though I actually dislike the fact that a stuffable pouch is added in the larger sizes. The opening flap doesn't lay flat when putting the diaper on. They aren't as absorbent as a pocket diaper, so they can leak if over-saturated. I have never had any smell issues until recently with my size Mediums. They don't smell as bad as my pocket diapers when saturated, but definitely smell worse than when I first bought them last December. I use Country Save in the amounts indicated. Perhaps some smell is just inevitable. Unfortunately since it's winter, I can't leave the diapers out to dry in the sun. I'd say that any minor smell issues are worth the wonderful convenience. However, I do think that they run a little smaller than indicated. My 18 pound, 29 inch, 9 month old seems like some won't fit in the Mediums much longer. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Cheri on Tuesday 16 March, 2010 I bought the XS AIO for the newborn stage and I LOVE them. Unfortunately they did not fit below the naval and rubbed the cord (our baby was born 7lb 2oz), so we waited until it fell off to start using. This would be my only complaint. These diapers hold a ton and do not leak, even when worn longer than they should be. I'm impressed how heavy the diaper is with pee and yet it still feels dry! They are trim and adorable. Those who were skeptical on my choice to cloth diaper are impressed and shocked at how easy these diapers are. I had planned to use another type of cloth diaper once my son grew out of these, but instead I've placed my order for the next size up. To address others' concerns: They are among the more expensive of CD choices, but still cheaper than disposables and worth it to me for the great quality and convienence. They do take longer to dry than others, but nothing I can't handle and again, worth it for its benefits. I don't have stink issues. I use country save detergent and wash every other day. I do have some light staining on some, but haven't tried bleach or sunning yet. I'm confident this will help and if it doesn't, who cares, it is on the inside onlyand will ge filled with pee and poop again in another day or so. I highly recommend these and am thrilled with my decision to CD after finding such a great product! Rating: [3 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Meg on Monday 01 March, 2010 I use this AIO as a cover with my tri folds. I use it just like I use my Thirties Duo Wraps. I don't feel that these perform any better than the Thirsties and they're a bit more expensive. I wash them in hot water and Planet liquid detergent after a cold rinse cycle and don't have a problem with stains. It is, however my most washed cover; it doesn't hold his diaper on as tightly as the others. But then, that is not this AIO's purpose. I, too, love the colors. Overall, the design is awfully sleek. They are bulky, but I find that cloth diapering at all is bulky and that this is only in comparison to the ultra designed disposable diapers on the market today. Rating: [3 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by melissa on Thursday 25 February, 2010 I just got these in the mail. I absolutely love the colors. But I was a little bummed (no pun intended) at how bulky they were. Are they always this bulky. I am thinking they may be hard to get into my chunky daughters clothing. I love the concept of using these diapers and can't wait to experience using them. I immediately put them in the wash. I will get back to tell you on how I feel they perform. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Laura on Friday 19 February, 2010 I LOVE these diapers!!! My baby has had no diaper rash and her skin looks great. When I first purchased these diapers I found, as everyone had mentioned, that they were difficult to dry. I have unstiched the liners and left only the top portion of the liner stitched in. I wash and dry the diapers with liners pulled out and it takes a few seconds to put them back in but they dry in one cycle. I no longer have to wait the long drying times to use them and I don't lose the liners as I had with another pocket diaper we were using. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Jessica on Friday 22 January, 2010 I absolutely LOVE these diapers. My son is a heavy wetter and these are perfect night time diapers with a doubler stuffed in them. I highly recommend these to anyone. I stopped using cloth for months because every other brand kept leaking. These dont leak! Rating: [3 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Linda on Saturday 16 January, 2010 We ordered a few of the XS AIOs (in butternut and blossom.. LOVE the colours!) to get us through the tiny newborn period. I really like these diapers, especially b'cuz even daddy can handle a diaper change! They fit really well and are super cute! But I do have several issues with the AIOs. I'm having major stain issues (exclusively breastfed poo), and nothing I've tried has been able to completely get rid of them. Unfortunately I live in an apartment, and our building never gets any sunlight. Also, it takes way too long to dry b'cuz our dryer (provided by the apartment) really really sucks. As much as I like these diapers... the convenience factor just isn't worthwhile enough for me to purchase more. I definitely prefer prefolds+cover. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Jamie on Tuesday 22 December, 2009 These diapers are awesome! A lot of other people have complained about stink issues, but I think that is all in the detergent used. I use Allen's and we have NEVER had stink issues or buildup issues, even on diapers that have sat in the pail for 4 days. (We also never have stain issues). These diapers are great and easy to use - especially for grandparents and dads. They may take a cycle and a half to dry, but drying outside in the sun for 1/2 a day will work too. They do hold surprising amount of liquid, and are fairly trim. I got some new and some used and both are holding up well. I love how easy these are compared to stuffing pockets! Great for grabbing when you are on the go and don't have time to stuff pockets! I highly recommend the AIOs and the One Size, but I just love the convenience of the AIOs. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Amber on Sunday 13 December, 2009 OMG!!! I bought the bg's aio diapers for my 4 month old boy a few days ago and Im back to order more!!! These diapers are amazing. I thought I would need to add an insert to these, but to my surprise my baby wheres them 4 hours at a time and his skin stays dry!!! There not hard to wash or dry, if you fold them inside out drying time is much faster! I don't think these diapers could get any better! Your saving money and the planet and keeping dangerous chemicals off your babies skin! ABSOLUTELY worth the money, buy these diapers and you wont be disappointed! Thank you for these truly amazing diapers! Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Theresa on Sunday 29 November, 2009 How I get One Cycle Dry time with my BG AIO 3.0
1) After my wash cycle, I take each diaper out individually
2) I fold the diaper in half, lengthwise with the PUL on the inside. (make sure the diaper is right side out; for some reason you'll get more water out of the diaper if it is right side out)
3) Then I wring out as much water as I possibly can.
4) Next I flip the diapers inside out and toss them into the dryer
5) Finally, I add a small fluffy bath towel into the dryer load
I love my AIO 3.0 on my EBF newborn. I skipped the xs and started with small. The smalls were a little big until my newborn hit 8.5- 9 lbs but that was only a week or two after he was born. These diapers are very trim on a young baby, compared to the BG OS. I have a set of BG One Size which I use with my toddler.
In my opinion the BG OS don't fit well until about 4 months so the AIO's are a great first diaper.
I Love the BumGenius products, but I don't think I would use AIOs with an older child. Mainly because solid food poop is a little more difficult to clean. I like BG OS pockets for toddlers because you can wash and rewash the inserts if they aren't clean the first time around. (Exclusively breast fed baby poop comes clean a lot easier and is no problem for the AIOs)
Lastly, the Velcro seems to stay better, longer when the diapers are washed inside out.
(Too bad Cotton Babies hasn't figured out a way to perfect the Velcro on their diapers; which is the only common complaint of all their diaper products.) Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by christy on Friday 27 November, 2009 I use BG 3.0 All in one with a rotation of flip and 3.0 one size. They are a great diaper and the one I reach for first. Dry times are a little longer than the others, but it is worth it for the convenience! These diapers are great and very easy to use - better than disposables in my opinion. I also love Cotton Babies. They have wonderful customer service and are dedicated to their customer and their product. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Jill-Christie on Tuesday 03 November, 2009 I have been using the BGs OS & loved it! With our growing family we had decided to try the AIo's BG because it gave out great reviews. In my experience with the AIO's, I am pretty pleased & absolutely satisfied with the convenience & the functionality of this dipes. I know some folks are having problems with the "stink" & some folks would have drying issues as compared with other dipes. but hey, this ones an AIO & it's not just a layer of terry cloth. I have my personal experiment to make it come out clean from the washer & dry faster in the dryer. I would usually, pre-wash it in the tub using cold running water to eliminate the urine & the "poop" then let it drain in a designated colander ( 4 dipes only) then dump it in my diaper pail. then I wash it inside out to wash the soaker well. plus, the microfleece isn't so hard to dry so, I let the micro terry surface out to get washed well. the stains easily washes out plus doing the inside out makes the dipe dry easily. Having to try some tricks would definitely do the job to get a squeaky clean AIO's. I love this dipes & I give it a 5 star because it has the convenience of a disposable but the work-horse quality that doesn't leak & is really gentle on my babes bums. love it! Rating: [1 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Kimberly on Friday 25 September, 2009 I've been using these about 6 months and they are very easy to use the problem with them is they don't clean well. My washing routine is cold wash, hot wash, and extra rinse. I use a small amount of country save detergent with both washings. My prefolds come out smelling clean and fresh but the 3.0 AIO's always need to be washed another 2 or 3 times before they no longer smell of urine.
Another problem for me is that it takes 3 drying cycles to dry them but my prefolds are dry in just over 1 cycle.
I much rather use the prefolds and am getting rid of the few AIO's that I have.
The one size 3.0 has a removable insert and washes much easier and drys faster too so if you want a simple diaper I recommend the one size over these. View all 33 reviews |
