Cloth Diaper 101
a comprehensive resource
about cloth diapers!
Product Description
bumGenius 4.0 One-Size Cloth Diaper
Best selling, top-rated, and recommended by moms everywhere for it’s quality and performance. One-size diaper with one-size insert keep your baby dry and comfortable.
"I received a few of these inserts free with my order of Fuzzi Bunz from your site last week, and I am in love with them! I had been using Hemparoos(two for day and night) and Wonder-fulls (for my Wonderoos), and I don't care for either of them as much as these! I've used them for two nights now, and no leaks (unlike with the hemparoos, which left my baby soaking wet in the morning). Thanks for a wonderful product! I just wish I needed some more diapers so that I could get the inserts for free, but, alas, I am all set for now."
~ Jenine

bumGenius One-Size Insert

bumGenius One-Size Microfiber inserts are made of 3 layers of the thickest microfiber terry available anywhere. Our unique snap down design allows these stuffable inserts to fit perfectly in our bumGenius 4.0 One-Size Stay-Dry Cloth Diaper. But they also work well in a small, medium or large Fuzzi Bunz® pocket diaper. Our new, wider and longer design fills up these diapers side-to-side and end-to-end. No more leaks! The One-Size Stay-Dry Insert measures 15.75 x 5.5 inches.

bumGenius One-Size Insert

Drying time

Our one-size inserts dry as quickly as bumGenius™ or FuzziBunz® dry on the line or in a dryer. All the economics of a one-size product and no more waiting for thick cotton or hemp inserts!!

Absorbency

Our inserts are now manufacturer rated at 15 oz. aborbency. Many other companies offer microfiber inserts now, but no other microfiber insert compares to the bumGenius microfiber insert. What is different? Our product is simply more absorbent than the others.

What about newborns?

If you are using this insert on a small newborn (under 10 pounds), we recommend purchasing Microfiber Diaper Doublers (plenty of absorbency for a newborn) or Hemp Babies Little Weeds to use until your baby is a little bit bigger.

What about overnights?

We recommend using two inserts when diapering an older baby or toddler at night. When diapering a smaller baby at night, consider wrapping the microfiber insert with a Hemp Babies Little Weeds.

Economy

Less detergent, less energy (our inserts are easy to hand wash/line dry if necessary), convenient one size design, and a lower price make these inserts the absolute best value available anywhere.

Washing Instructions

Before First Use: For cotton products, wash hot (100F/40C) 3-5 times.
Use: Do not use rash creams.
Dirty Storage: Store in dry pail/bin.
Wash: Wash darks separately. Pre-wash cold. Wash hot (100F/40C) with bumGenius detergent. Extra rinse. No laundry additives. Tumble dry insert. No fabric softeners. Use ¼ cup or 60 mL bleach in the hot wash once per month.

Designed by a mom and conscientiously manufactured in China.

These are ok. My son is apparently a very heavy wetter, and has been soaking through one of these with a doubler in a matter of two hours, since he was two weeks old. I did get one of each with my 4.0s which is better than nothing. He can use them for short times during the day, if we are staying home ;) However, I prefer to use cotton prefolds in the pockets (econobums fit nicely and hold a lot). They hold up for soooo much longer, such as overnight, I usually use a prefold and a hemp insert, and that lasts him about 8 hrs. I plan on buying more econobums, just for my pocket diapers.

I used these as stuffers in my Bum Genius 4.0 and they absorb a lot however I found that they were pulling out too much moisture and really drying out my little one's skin. I don't use them much anymore. Kinda feel like I wasted money. :-/ I prefer my Kissaluvs Doublers or Hemp Inserts.

I love these inserts! They are so absorbent! I had a bunch but from so much use, they were super dingy. My boys almost 3 and still not potty trained so they have been used quite a bit. For baby number 2 I ordered more and they have been improved and their softer! I highly recomment these to those who need a really absorbent liner.

I LOVE the cloth diapers and the microfiber inserts. I have not had a problem with smell as others have noted. I use Shaklee products, a bit of Basic H in the cold prewash and Basic G in the wetpail as well as occasionally in the hot wash with a small amount of Shaklee laundry soap and they come out stain free and smelling clean :). I just wish I would have switched over to them sooner!

I love how much these absorb and how soft they are. However, I really don't like the snaps. I wish they would leave them out. They seems to just poke/scratch the PUL. I mean the Flip stay dry inserts don't have them; you just fold them over for different sizes.

These are really great inserts as far as microfiber goes. Love the adjustable size, makes them very easy to use. I don't use them for night time diapering but they are great during the day. I've been using mine for a little over 6 months and have not had any problems.

I love these! I have been using them for almost 3 months and I do NOT have the same problem as some other reviewers about a bad smell. I used them for added absorbency through the night in the econobums. I use 1 prefold and 1 of these doublers and I have never had any leak issue. My son goes to sleep at 7:30p and wakes up at 8:30a with no night time changes. Just rinse and wring out once or twice before you throw them in the wet bag... I wash them with the diaper covers, prefolds and wipes & I've never had any issue. I bought 3 and for 1 baby that's all I needed.

I have used these products for a year and a half, and have some in varying ages. I think it is a better product than the Fuzzi Bunz microfiber. However, I think these inserts do not get totally clean as easily as the newborn inserts (because they are more layers) and therefore they are subject to getting more smells! When I had problems with bad ammonia smells, it was these inserts that were the culprit. The cotton and hemp products I had did not retain the terrible funk smell that these did after night time diapering! However, when I use them for 2-4 hours in the daytime with my son, they are totally fine. They fit in Fuzzi Bunz diapers well, too. Instead of buying extra inserts of these, I would recommend buying extra inserts that are made of hemp, because they really are trimmer and less smelly. Also, I think using an infant or econobum prefold would be a another wise option for an insert rather than stocking up on these!

These inserts work great! I use two overnight on my toddler and they have never leaked. As far as the smell goes, I started having a minor stink problem with my BG 4.0 and I tried loads of different things, with varying degrees of success. I finally found something that worked great. I have a HE washer and use Country Save on all the cloth dipe stuff. What finally got completely rid of the smell was using Biokleen bac out. I spray a fine mist of it on the microfiber stuff before I throw it in the pail. If I forget, I just put a tiny bit in the first cold water wash. Everything comes out smelling so clean!

These are the inserts we use for even Non-CB pocket diapers. I find they are more effective than the too-short Fuzzi Bunz ones. They do have a strong odor after being wet (night time or daytime) and I think this is the reason why my diaper pail stinks. However, when I use Rocking Green soap, the stink issue goes away right after the laundry experience until the insert has been peed on again. I don't have the same smell problem with Baby Kicks hemp doublers/inserts, which is why I gave it a 4 instead of 5.

I love the snap feature on these inserts...by far outweighs comparable microfiber inserts that you just have to fold over b/c they don't stay as well and seem much bulkier that way. These inserts also hold a TON! I've never had a leak with them, using them alone during the day and with the newborn insert/doubler at night. The only think I dislike about them is that I get a strong ammonia odor when my daughter wakes up each morning after a 12 hour night in these, but I think that's just a downside to microfiber. Worth it though, for the reliability and ease of use these inserts provide!

I just unpacked our Bum Genius one size diapers & doublers & was preparing to wash them when I read the tag of the doubler to find that it is made mostly of polyester. That is SO disappointing to me! A company called COTTON BABIES & they're using polyester to sit next to our babies delicate skin. I wouldn't use polyester underwear for myself. Why would I want to use that for my baby. I looked on the site for a cotton alternative but found only hemp. I'm disappointed & doubting my decision to use these diapers. This is our first baby & I had been so thrilled to find what I thought was going to be wonderful cloth diaper. :(

We used these for almost a year, both as pocket inserts and nighttime/nap doublers, and were satisfied with them...and then they started to stink. And, boy, do they ever STINK. I have stripped them with RLR, dish soap, boiling water...pretty much everything you can think of, and they STILL smell like something that came out of the elephant's cage at the zoo. I've since switched to stuffing our pocket diapers with my son's outgrown unbleached IPF's, and we are all much happier now. These smelly inserts are sitting in the back of a dark closet, until I can think of something else to do with them. I definitely won't use them in my diapers again!

BG 3.0's are great! I wanted to use cloth diapers to help reduce waste in the environment and save money but was skeptical because I thought it would be too much work until my girlfriend convinced me otherwise. She recommended that I use Charlie's Soap (in HOT water) to get the diapers clean and odor free. It totally works! It's industrial strength. I have not had a problem with odor and they look like new after being washed. I have had to wash them twice if I let them sit for more than two days. I also bought the BG odor remover spray which helps. The only issue that I have with BG diapers is that they are really bulky and I am concerned about my daughter wearing such a big diaper for long periods of time. I think they could be contoured as well (as someone else wrote) Overall, they are money well spent.

I have a few different kinds of diapers and the BG inserts are the most absorbant I've found. My daughter is a heavy wetter and they hold up quite well overnight. I have not had any issues with odor, however I rinse all my diaps and inserts before putting them in my diaper pail and I don't think a lot of people do that based on what I'm reading. I wash every 2-3 days, so rinsing them out at the end of each day seems to have helped immensely and I've had 0 issues with odor! If you're having odor issues I would recommend trying that. I just put the wet diaps in a wet bag throughout the day and at the end of the day before bed, go down to our laundry room and dump all the diaps for the day out in my laundry tub and rinse everything in cold water, wring them out and put them in my diaper pail. Granted it's 5 minutes more work per day, but that's a small price to pay for having a stink free kid! On a side note, I rinse the poopy ones right away to avoid stains and stink. Been using them for 6+ months and I love these diaps and inserts!

I am a big fan of bum genius. There is an issue with the stinky but I have done a lot of contemplation on the matter. The reason that they tend to hold odor is because they are sooooooooooooooooo absorbent that not all of the urine, etc., necessarily gets out. What I have found is that rinsing them out as soon as possible while waiting to be washed and letting them air dry once in a while (though it takes a million years in Florida humidity) really makes a huge difference. Also, the peepee stink they seem to get after overnight use can be troublesome. My husband and I noticed it when our little one sleeps with us. I figured out that it is the bum genius diaper itself causing this. Because they are such good diapers, they don't let any moisture through. The consequence of this is they don't let any air through, either. Airflow is essential in releasing any gases expelled by the anaerobic bacteria that multiply in the urine throughout the night. For our baby, I have managed to combat it by leaving her diaper a little loose in the front so a bit more air can get in. The other benefit is that, as she has gotten older, she does not seem to peepee in the night as much. She usually does it a few minutes after she wakes up (although that is still a few times a night, unfortunately). There have been times when it was really bad, so we just had to change her. All in all, the diapers are so freaking great that it has been worth the small drawbacks.
