I was excited to try cloth diapering, and as I stay at home with my kids I figured I'd go the least expensive route. I purchased two of the Econobum Full Kit. I got what I ordered - a total of 6 covers, 24 prefolds, and 2 wetbags. I figured prefolds couldn't be that bad and I was excited to learn all the different ways to fold a prefold... Until I fully prepped them and tried to fold them onto my baby. It wasn't happening. These are not the traditional prefolds. Or at least I couldn't fold them onto my three month old baby. I had diaper pins, but the prefold was just too small, it wouldn't fit around his waist. I double checked the website, and saw instructions to tri-fold the prefold only. Okay, bummer. Instead we kinda "folded" it but mostly just laid the prefold inside the cover and tried to cover his bum with it. Time passed and I was pretty satisfied. We were still using disposable diapers at night and whenever we went anywhere. I wouldn't recommend these for at night. They stay wet against babies skin - they do not wick the moisture away like disposable or even the bumgenius diapers. After a few weeks of using these, we decided to take our son somewhere in them. Well, that wasn't happening because they are so bulky. I thought I could just get used to the bulk. But when my baby won't even fit in his infant car seat because of how huge these diapers are there is a problem. Yes. My son is a little bit on the Viking side when it comes to baby sizes (he's now 6 months old and weighs 19 pounds), but this was when he still weighed 13 pounds. Not being able to take my son anywhere while he wears this diapers really put a damper on things... And not only that, but he was having to wear larger size clothes to accommodate the diaper's bulk. Having an already large baby AND having to accommodate more bulk? I don't know, it just isn't worth it to me. I am VERY disappointed. I even ordered a Snappi to try to fold the so called prefold onto my son thinking that would work better instead of pins and take away some of the bulk... It didn't. I did order some BumGenius 4.0, and I do love those. But at the price I might as well use disposable diapers. I read these blog posts saying that they'll save so much money buying $600 worth of cloth diapering supplies vs. thousands of dollars to buy disposable. But if I buy the $15 bag of Wal-Mart brand disposable diapers every three weeks over the next two years that's approximately $520 before tax. About the same price tag as the fancy cloth diapers, with waaaay less effort. Anyway, for me it just isn't worth it. DEFINITELY would NOT recommend the Econobum diapers to anyone. Insanely bulky, can't actually fold them like other diapers, and don't wick away moisture from baby's skin so have to be changed very often and can't be used over night. I would return these but after washing them they can't be returned So there's that. I would recommend the BumGenius diapers to anyone wanting to cloth diaper. They're much easier to use and wick away moisture from baby much better. They also aren't nearly as bulky as these. If this was the ONLY thing you could afford and cloth diapering was the only choice you had then these obviously will get the job done. But I wouldn't use these as a first choice!

first buy with my newest son straight out the hospital after the first few diapers we started cloth and i absolutely love these the inserts were really bulky and we couldn't used them at the time but now my son is 5 months and just about 15-20 pounds and we used them now and they are great for a night time diaper as he sleeps through the night and is a light pee'er... i only gave 4 stars because my son and my self were not able to use the provided inserts until now but we absolutely love them

I received this as a present to try on my daughter who is 19 months now. The cover is very thin, but durable. It has an easy to wash inside and it is very stretchy. I wish it came in Aplix, but only the newborn size does. The prefolds are easy to prep. My daughter sleeps for 12+ hrs a night, so i use a prefold plus an insert like a babykick brand. That gets her through the night with no leaks. I pad fold the prefold and it works great.

I have been using the econobum prefolds with the econobum and flip covers for the last nine months. They have held up perfectly. No leaks, ever! At night I couple a new born flip with the econobum prefold and no leaks. I love these diapers and you can not beat the price.

Well, I've been using these for a month now and have to say they have their ups and downs. I wish the side snaps were up and down instead of right next to each other. This makes the top of the diaper kind of scrunch up. Also the elastic around the legs needs to be a bit better. If you don't get them on just right around the legs they will leak. Also the free wetbag is already ruined, which is ok, as you could barely get the pee smell out of it without some serious cleaning, and I wash everything everyday. I am better off using a ziploc bag. The upsides are the system was quite cheap and I have not had to buy disposables at all. I do have to double up at night or they will not make it through, but my son doesn't seem to mind the bulk when he's passed out. All in all for the price it is a good system. I may try to incorporate some other brand covers to my collection if I can find a good deal. I just really don't want to spend a lot of money on diapers simce my son is already 14 months, plus the reason I switched to cloth was to save all the money we were throwing away on disposables. Hope my reviews help others who are thinking about purchasing this system.
