The "Try It" Kit Reviews (39) Write Review Rating: [4 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Jessica on Monday 25 January, 2010I recently purchased this kit to try cloth on my third baby. This is a great kit for the price! I love the Bummis wraps that come with it and I am a firm believer in the Snappi! My only disappointment with this kit is the prefolds. I purchased the Indian unbleached. They are of GREAT quality but the sizing is not exact. I have a 6 mos. 15-16 pound baby and the medium covers work perfectly but the premium size prefolds are still too large. I have to fold them down in the front about 3 inches when I put them on the baby (using the tri-fold method) making them very bulky especially when fitting them over her clothing. I did not try the infant size prefolds but I didn't want to get them too small. I am using these at night with doublers (1 hemp and 1 stay dry) and using the Bummis wrap with no leakings for the past 2 weeks (10-12 hours)!! I definitely recommend this kit to anyone trying out cloth but keep in mind the sizing could vary on the prefolds. I ended up buying the rest of my prefolds from another company that sizes them to fit the covers. I will however buy more of these prefolds for at night if I ever need more because they are very absorbant and thick. Also fast shipping with washing instructions in the box!! The prefolds were so rough at first and i kind of got disappointed because on youtube they looked totally different but after some research i came to know that's how they are till they are washed. So after a few washes they became my babies bum's fav. outfit. LOL. I'm very happy with rhis kit. Thank u cottonbabies. Great job! Keep it up. I have been CDing for 8 months now and I still use the covers from this kit (I had chose mediums). The prefolds, on the other hand, I gave to a dear friend wanting to try cloth diapering. All in all, if you're feeling overwhelmed and don't know what to get, try this kit! Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Brooke on Thursday 07 January, 2010 This kit is the perfect starter kit. I knew nothing about cding before I purchased this kit and now that I've gained some expirience I still use the bummis covers and unbleached indian prefolds from this kit as much as BG 3.0's. In fact, I use these at home and prefer to use them in the day time. I use BG's for out of the house and long sleep periods. As soon as DS grows out of the size small cover, I will be ordering a second kit in medium. Great buy! Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Ashley on Wednesday 30 December, 2009 I loved this kit! The prefolds work amazingly, and I love the covers. They're not my favorite, but we've never had a leak or an explosion. They do seem a little more prone to light staining on the inside, but nothing I've ever seen on the outside.
I'd definitely recommend it to someone who was dipping their toe into cloth diapering. I got the indian prefolds and the bummies frog and celery dot print. I am so pleased. Although I am on my 3rd child, I am completely new to cloth. I have been very pleased with this package. The price is great and I am thinking about ordering another soon. I recently purchased some contour diapers as well but have not liked them as well. They are much easier to put on (which my husband loves) but they seem to leak worse than the prefolds and they wet the cloth part of the cover around his legs. I have not had many leaks at all with the prefolds. Of course, some of the leaks may be operator error! Ha! I love this package, great deal, great diapers! Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Leah on Wednesday 04 November, 2009 This kit was a great way to break into cloth diapering for us. It's a relatively low price tag and allows you to get a better idea of what it will be like. It will mostly get you through the day but it is enough to get the idea. The prefolds are really nice quality as are the bummis covers. Ultimately I ended up buying some "sized" prefolds (from another site) that fit my 6 month old better than the premiums. The premiums I need to fold in order to fit him. That said, they are great for nighttime or naptime and I've found that it's good to have variety to choose from to customize your diaper. At this point I've added a few AIO and various accessories to my stash but it still consists mainly of prefolds and this kit gets a lot of use. A good choice and a good investment. We bought two of these, in addition to 8 more prefolds, and 12 BG.
While the BG are much easier to put on, especially with a squirmy baby, the prefolds are more economical and easier to use in the sense that you only wash and dry, no need to fold or stuff.
The quality of the prefolds from Cotton Babies is amazing. They show no sign of wear after 11 months of use.
The covers are also very nice. We have not had a problem with leaking. We also purchased a bumGenius one-size diaper to see how we liked that (figuring to use it for our 2-1/2 YO). We were very impressed with how easy CDing is (it's NOT your mother's way of CDing anymore) and have decided to make the switch to CD diapers exclusively!! This kit allowed us to "test drive" CDing before making the larger investment to switch over permanently. Yes, pre-washing the prefolds takes some time and seems tedious, but once it's done, they're a breeze!! Having this kit really took all the fear out of CDing and answered all our questions about what CDing is really like. I'd love to see this kit include a BG OS diaper, too! Well-priced and definitely worth it! Thanks Cotton Babies! Rating: [4 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Patricia on Friday 12 December, 2008 I just got my prefold kit two days ago and so far I love it. I actually ordered two kits (one Chinese prefolds one Indian prefolds) and the two kits have just the right amount of diapers for mytwins 10 month old girls. I do not really have a preference between the Chinese and Indian...I can go 3 hours without worrying about leakage. I do use hand made AIO's also, but the prefolds work just as well. This kit is an awesome way to try prefolds. I would use prefolds all the time, but my husband has issues with folding! Rating: [4 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Nicole on Thursday 20 November, 2008 I had previously posted on the Indian prefolds when I had first got them. I have been cloth diapering for almost 4 months now with these versus using gerber diapers. The are much more absorbent but so bulky. My little girl is always in the 90th percentile. It was to the point the she could not wear any jeans or corderoy's & I was always putting her in dresses & tights. The cloth make her butt look huge. I ended up just using them for daycare because I just usually put her in sweats to play but on the weekends when I want to dress her cute I use paper diapers. That way I save money & can use up the clothes that I had already bought her. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Crystal on Monday 27 October, 2008 I ordered this kit along with 2 bumGenius 3.0s. Although I plan on getting more 3.0s, I am very glad we got this try it kit. We have been using hand made AIOs on my daughter, but she is starting to out grow them so we decided to kind of see what our other options are. I ordered the Large, which fits great, on my 28 lb. 3 ft. barely 2 year old. The covers do not leave red marks on her nor have we had any leaks.
I ordered a couple of Chinese pre-folds in conjunction with the Indian pre-folds I got with this kit. I much prefer the Indian. The Chinese seem more bulky and they looked old and worn out after the first pre-wash. Both seem equally absorbent though.
The snappi seems much easier to use than diaper pins would be. We only used it for the first diaper though, the cover seems to hold the diapers in place just fine for us.
All in all, I prefer the 3.0, but I am glad to have these in the diaper basket until I can build up my stash of them. This seems to be a cheaper and very efficient way to diaper. Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Geri on Thursday 16 October, 2008 I got this kit to supplement my bumGenius 3.0s, and I couldn't be happier! I thought the prefolds would be a big hassle, but once I got the hang of the Snappi, they've been no problem, even with a relatively squirmy 6-month old. I think I may even get more prefolds...thanks Cotton Babies for offering "try it" kits! Rating: [3 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Jessica on Saturday 13 September, 2008 After reading reviews I was very excited to get started. Well, prefolds and covers just are not easy with a squirmy 1 year old who doesn't like to sit still long enough to even get a 'sposie on. We've used them a few times without leaks but they are quite bulky (husband had issues!) and the CPF gets a bit scrunched under the cover. And I tried today with just the CPF and the Snappi and after multiple tries couldn't get the Snappi right and the bottom prongs got caught on my carpet and snagged it as my child crawled. I know it works for many but, unfortunately, not for me. I am looking forward to my BG 3.0s arriving next week as I fully intend to CD! Rating: [4 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by LaTresha on Thursday 10 July, 2008 I just got my "try it kit" yesterday, and I must say that I love my prefolds! This kit was a good way for me to try CD as others have said. The wrap did not leave marks on my baby, and he was dry the next morning. However, I would say to order a size down. I ordered medium for my 15lb baby, and it is kinda big. The prefolds and wrap are a little bulky, but that's ok! I may do other types of CD for goin out and about, but for just being home this was perfect! Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Tiffany on Wednesday 02 July, 2008 This is exactly what I needed to round out our stash! The prefolds are now what I reach for first! The Snappi makes it so easy to use them and they wash and dry the fastest of all our diapers. Thanks for a great kit! Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] Reviewed by Lea on Saturday 21 June, 2008 Wondeful kit!
