NEW Patented FRUBI SHADES® with the ULTRAGUARD POLYCARBONATE® lens offer serious (maximum) protection for the eyes of the
children you love!
Why do I need sunglasses for my child?
- Eyes Get Sunburned, too!
- Children find squinting uncomfortable.
- The human eye is 10 times more sensitive to harmful UV rays than your skin. Yet how many of us consider sunglasses for our children a
necessity, like using sunscreen? Not many!
- As we age, our natural lens becomes more protective. Until then, children's eyes need all the protection they can get!
Designed by a leading ophthalmologist, this patented eyewear is molded into one soft piece for comfort and safety.
Introduce FRUBI SHADES® early and your children will become accustomed to them. Protecting their eyes will be a lesson they will keep for life.
Ten years ago, Dr. Gary Hall, an ophthalmologist in Phoenix realized that many of his patients were suffering consequences from years of
sun-drenched Arizona living. For most of them, the very reason for moving to Arizona’s warm climate had become a serious health hazard.
Cataracts, macular degeneration, eyelid cancer, and other serious eye diseases, are all linked to sun exposure. Determined to change this,
Dr. Hall began focusing on prevention rather than treatment of eye diseases.
Recently, he introduced a new system for solar rating sunglasses, called the Eye Protection Factor (EPF), which will hold the sunglass
industry to a higher standard of protection.
What is EPF?
The EPF (Eye Protection Factor) rates the TOTAL protection of sunglasses, not just UV. There are four important factors measured to obtain
the EPF. Frubi™ Shades EPF is rated at 99.5 out of 100. WOW!
- Frame Coverage: Rates the sunglasses’ ability to block harmful stray sunrays which go around the lens and frame.
- Ultraviolet: Rates the lens’ ability to block UVA and UVB.
- Blue Light: Rates the lens’ ability to block visible blue light.
- Infrared: Rates the lens’ ability to block IR radiation.
Eyes can get sunburned too! Sunshine has been linked to cataracts, macular degeneration and other serious eye diseases and can burn the
cornea. The damage starts early and is cumulative. Yes, babies need to wear sunglasses because their eyes are less able to filter out UV
rays. Start them young so they will continue with this important habit. With Frubi™ Shades, you can be sure that your kids' eyes will be
well protected.
FRUBI TEST RESULTS
Solar Protection
Frubi™ Shades have undergone solar evaluation through the ANSI Z80.3-2001 Compliance Testing and through the fubi Solar EPF Rating
System.
According to the ANSI Z80.3-2001 test results, Frubi™ Shades are categorized as “Special Purpose Lenses, strongly-colored”. They are
not recommended for driving an automobile. The ULTRAGUARD® Lens blocks 100% UVB and 100% UVA, offering the strictest UV-blocking requirements.
The Eye Protection Factor, as rated by the fubi Solar EPF System for Frubi™ Shades, was recorded at 99.5. This is the highest recorded
value so far in the sunglass industry. The component values of the fubi system are as follows:
- Frame coverage – 99.0
- UV protection – 100
- blue light protection – 99.4
- infrared protection – 83.0
The four fubi values range from the 60s to 100 maximum on tested sunglass products.
Toxicity
Frubi™ Shades are in compliance with the European standard on safety of toys, EN71 Part 3: 1994, including the Amendment A1: 2000 –
Migration of Certain Elements. The analysis was performed by an Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometer.
Impact Resistance
ULTRAGUARD® Lenses are polycarbonate and pass the test for impact resistance pursuant to FDA regulation 21 CFR 801.410, according to two
independent laboratories.
Biocompatibility
All materials used to manufacture Frubi™ Shades, including the ethyl vinyl acetate (EVA) used for the frames, the adhesive, and the
polycarbonate used for the lenses, are known to be biocompatible materials. However, any material on occasion may cause an allergic reaction.
In the event any unusual reaction causing redness or severe inflammation of the skin should occur after using Frubi Shades, please discontinue
use of the product.
Flammability
Frubi™ Shades are in compliance with flammability test requirements of the ASTM F963-03 Standard Consumer Safety Specification on Toy
Safety. Frubi™ Shades also pass the flammability test according to ANSI Z80.3-2001 specifications.
Optical Quality
Frubi™ Shades’ ULTRAGUARD® Lens pass the optical quality testing according to the ANSI Z80.3-2001 requirements for cosmetic quality,
refractive power difference, astigmatic power, prismatic power, luminous transmittance, and mean transmittance. Since ULTRAGUARD® Lenses are
special purpose, strongly colored lenses, they do not pass the spectral transmittance or color limits test. This means they are not recommended for
driving or other activities requiring traffic signal recognition.
Teach Your Child to Protect Their Eyes With Frubi® Shades.
Wearing Frubi® Shades, just like wearing sunscreen or fastening a seat belt, is a learned phenomenon. Kids learn fast, but if you don’t teach
them to wear children’s sunglasses, they will never learn. Here are some of our suggestions on how you can get your child to love wearing Frubi®
Shades.
- Introduce FRUBI SHADES® early and your children will become accustomed to them. Protecting their eyes will be a lesson they will
keep for life.
- When you first put Frubi® Shades on your child they should be in the sun - not indoors.
- Make sure the ULTRAGUARD POLYCARBONATE® lens on the Frubi® Shades are clean. If not, clean them with a lens cleaner and soft cloth.
If you don’t have lens cleaner, soap and water will do. Just don’t dry them with an abrasive paper towel.
- Center the Frubi® Shades so the nosepiece rests on the tiny bridge of the nose and the temple straps above the ears. Adjust the
Velcro strap to be just tight enough so that they don’t slip down, but not tighter. If they are too snug a tiny red spot from the
nosepiece may appear.
- It is normal, especially for infants, to try to pull the Frubi® Shades off at first. But the more you put them back on and encourage
them to wear them, the easier it gets. Start your child as young as possible. Remember that wearing Frubi® Shades for 5 minutes the
first time is wonderful. It’s a new experience so build the time up gradually.
