Sending Kids Back to School: Time to Celebrate or Sing the Blues?
August 13, 2018 4:18 pm | by
Back to school blues

Back to Scool Blues My kids still have a few years until they start kindergarten, but last night at daycare we had a graduation party for the kids who are heading off to kindergarten. I know it’s normal for parents to feel some sadness as their kids move on from being preschoolers to kindergarten, but it hit me surprisingly hard. Back to school season turns the emotional ante way up. The kids we were celebrating were not mine, and truthfully, I barely know them other than the fact that they were in my daughter’s class. There was a sweet ceremony

ABCs of Summer with Kids
July 26, 2018 4:08 pm | by
Fill your summer with FUN! Make your own ABC checklist of activities to do with your kids.

Are you trying to make the most out of your summer with your kids? Do you find yourself stuck in a slump, constantly doing the same activities? A friend of mine posted her ABCs of summer list. For each letter of the alphabet, there is a corresponding place to visit or activity to try. It also creates a fun checklist of things to do. You and your kids will enjoy creating your own list and crossing things off your list. You can even make a fun photo album at the end of the summer to commemorate your summer. Here’s my list

Cool Baby Carriers for a Hot Summer
April 12, 2018 8:00 am | by

Even though this midwest winter seems to be neverending, warm weather will eventually be here. I am so excited to take my kids outside to play and explore new things and places. My little guy is about to turn 1, and he is a wobbly walker. For outings that require lots of walking, I love to strap him in a baby carrier and go. The only downside is that St. Louis summers are hot and humid. Sometimes, coming in contact with another human is just about the last thing you would want to do. Luckily, there are some lightweight and

Your Summer Guide to Cloth Diapering in the Water
May 15, 2017 8:00 am | by

There’s nothing better than a long summer day in the water with your little ones. Not only do they have a great time splashing and playing while they’re there, they come home exhausted and ready to take a long nap—which means mama gets a little time for herself! Preparing to take your little ones to the water, however, does require some forethought. As a cloth diapering mama, you don’t really want to purchase disposable diapers just for use in the water. Are you prepared for everything your little one needs for summer? Check the Guidelines of the Pool If you’re

Summer Playdates
August 17, 2016 2:55 pm | by

Summer may be coming to an end, but there’s still time to fit in some outdoor fun! Throughout this summer, I had to think about what I was going to do everyday to entertain all four of my children. For me, it’s a balance of finding budget-friendly activities that will entertain all age ranges of my girls, and keep us away from our life-sucking devices. So here is my list of summer playdates with older and younger children. Take a Nature Walk. Head to your local state park and pick a path. Your child can create a nature journal and take sketches of his findings or pretend he is

Review: S’well Water Bottle
June 30, 2016 8:47 pm | by

Let’s talk water bottles. And more specifically the “Choose Love” S’well Water Bottle because it’s awesome. No, really. Let me tell you why. I just spent a total of six hours in the sunshine at our local pool. That felt like a REALLY long time, especially in 90-degree weather, and I needed to stay hydrated to chase after the two bigger kids and nurse the baby. My cooler isn’t super big so it doesn’t have enough space for all the water bottles I need for a full day outdoors. For this reason, I decided to pack my S’well water bottle with some ice water, knowing there was

July 14, 2015 5:49 pm | by

Summer is here, and you know what that means! Ample time to enjoy all kinds of fun outdoor activities: hiking, swimming, watching fireworks, attending parties, picnics, and summer camp, and of course, plenty of unstructured outdoor play! Using sunscreen on a daily basis is SO important to protect your family’s skin from sun damage. But it’s also SO important to me to use a product without a lot of chemicals, so it’s safe for skin in other ways. We protect our skin with California Baby Sunblock, which provides UVA/UVB protection, is PABA-free and hypoallergenic. The mineral-based lotion is super

Summer Babywearing
July 15, 2014 6:25 pm | by

Babywearing has been a lifesaver for me since my little one was a newborn. It has made my shopping trips smoother, has freed up my hands, and has allowed me to create a bond with my little one that is like no other. With that being said, babywearing during the summer months can sometimes be a little difficult. With high temperatures and humid weather it’s important to not only keep your little one cool, but yourself as well. Here are some tips for summer babywearing. Keep Cool. If you live in a rather warm climate investing in a lighter material
