Toddlers are amazing. They are able to quietly sit in one spot while playing with their toys in such a sweet, adorable way that makes you want to fill an entire Instagram account with pictures in less than 10 minutes. Then, the dryer buzzes or you have to check on dinner. And in the 15 seconds you aren’t watching, your sweet innocent toddler just destroyed an entire room. Let’s not even talk about what it’s like to have twins or more than one preschool age child in your home — at the same time. Depending on their age, it can

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas? No, that was actually a little bit of sarcasm on my part — it’s cold and flu season again! Just when you thought you’d made it through, it’s back. Nothing brings out the sniffles and stomach bugs like sending your precious children back to school to exchange germs with their friends. But never fear! We are here to remind you of some simple and easy ways that we can all help our kids maintain their immunity and ward off those pesky germs.   Hand washing – did you know that you

When big kids go back to school

Yay! School is back in session! I mean, I think. I was getting a little worn out being Addie’s cruise director everyday. She learned the fine art of being bored this summer but she also managed to ask enough questions that I began to go cross eyed by the end of July. Addie was an only child for the first six years of her life and she’ll go through most of her life as a somewhat only child. She’ll never be in the same school as her sister at the same time, they’re not likely to have the same group

When Mom’s Away

So this week I will leave behind my baby and big kid with my big husband and flew away to New York City for five glorious and exhausting days. However, I’m convinced that the five days leading up to leaving may be more exhausting than the five days I actually spend in New York. (That city makes me SO TIRED.) My husband works full time and I know he doesn’t have time to cook, clean, organize and run the house the way I do, not because he’s incapable, but because he’s gone 9 hours a day and doesn’t witness how

Separation Anxiety

Editor’s note: the following blog is meant to share perspective regarding one mom’s experience and inner feelings when dealing with separation anxiety. This content is in no way intended to be instructions of how every family should deal with this situation. In the world of parenting, there are few phrases more frightening than “separation anxiety.” Frightening, because everyone has an opinion on how it should be handled. Frightening, because grandparents and other well-meaning experienced parents have tips on how they dealt with it. But mostly frightening, because outside of junior high romance, few things in life leave you questioning your
