Review: BumGenius Liquid Laundry Detergent

If bumGenius laundry detergent had a #1 fan, it would be me. When I first started cloth diapering,I didn’t think it was necessary to use laundry detergent that was formulated for cloth diapers. Instead, I just used my homemade version. As a result, I would get so frustrated by the constant cloth diaper leaks. Then, I used a store-bought laundry soap, thinking it would help with the leaks. It didn’t. At that point, I educated myself on how to properly wash cloth diapers and found that cloth diaper detergent wasn’t just a marketing technique. Since these detergents are free of the additives that often clog

After reviewing the feedback received through customer surveys regarding detergent choice and washing routines, Cotton Babies has decided to make several major changes. We are discontinuing our list of recommended detergents. Instead, we are recommending that parents choose a detergent that works well for their family, their budget, and their child. The new detergent information sheet along with basic washing instructions is available here. In concert with this decision, we are also modifying the warranty that applies to Cotton Babies manufactured cloth diapers (bumGenius, Flip, and Econobum). This warranty change will be honored retroactively on purchases of all Cotton Babies manufactured cloth diapers purchased since January 1,

Cloth 101: Diaper Creams and Lotions
February 22, 2015 9:41 am | by
BLOG_cloth101

Let’s set the record straight — there is NO cream, lotion or oil that is safe to use on bumGenius, Flip or Econobum diapers. Despite what you see, hear or read, we ALWAYS recommend using a barrier with any cream or lotion. A lot of people think that because something says its cloth diaper safe (sorry, coconut oil!) you do not need to use a barrier.  This is not true and will void your warranty because these products can cause issues such as leaks, odors, and unnecessary wear and tear. So why does this happen? Creams, oils, and lotions are designed to coat

Review: bumGenius Laundry Detergent

I’m a working mama of 3 kids, and I’ll admit, I often don’t do things the “easy” way. I love to cook from scratch, I clean incessantly, and I research almost every product before making a purchase. So there are times I just need something to be simple. And using cloth diapers is simple! But with it comes a whole slew of techniques on how to clean them: spraying, swishing, soaking, sunning, etc. I don’t have time for all that! I do laundry seemingly around-the-clock as it is. I just want something that works the first time; something that I don’t

Cloth 101: Washing Cloth Diapers, A Look at the Last 10 Years
May 18, 2014 11:12 am | by
BLOG_jennsthoughts

I recently read a post in a forum from a cloth diapering mom complaining that her cloth diapers weren’t clean.  Her friend had told her to use a sprinkle of detergent when washing her cloth diapers.  She was frustrated because the amount of detergent she was using wasn’t working.  As I read the responses, I realized that many of the people writing had profiles that were relatively new and were probably unaware of the history of washing recommendations in the cloth diaper industry.  This post grew out of a desire to bring some clarity to that history. The “tiny little

Everyone has to start cloth diapering somewhere. With all the information available online at your fingertips, it can be very overwhelming. The great thing about cloth diapering is that it only takes a little bit to get started. A question we are frequently asked is “What do I need to begin cloth diapering?“   If you want to start cloth diapering an infant we recommend: 24 cloth diapers in the style of your choice. If you are choosing a two-piece system such as Flip or Econobum, we recommend 24 inserts and 6 covers. This number is based on changing an

10 Reasons I Love Prefolds
June 8, 2008 1:04 pm | by

1. They are cheap. At $2 or less per diaper (depending on size and thickness) this is easily the cheapest way to cloth diaper. You can get enough diapers to get you through your baby’s entire diapering period for less than $100. 2. They are soft. After they quilt up in the first few washes, they are soft and fluffy and comfortable. I know I would be willing to wear them around my sensitive parts if I needed to, so I feel good about my baby wearing them. The Chinese prefolds are very soft, but the Indian prefolds are even
