At $4 or less per diaper (depending on size and thickness) this is easily the cheapest way to cloth diaper. You can get enough diapers to get you through your baby’s entire diapering period for less than $200. 2. They are soft. After they quilt up in the first few

Review: BumGenius Liquid Laundry Detergent
August 27, 2015 7:52 pm | by

If bumGenius laundry detergent had a #1 fan, it would be me. When I first started cloth diapering,I didn’t think it was necessary to use laundry detergent that was formulated for cloth diapers. Instead, I just used my homemade version. As a result, I would get so frustrated by the constant cloth diaper leaks. Then, I used a store-bought laundry soap, thinking it would help with the leaks. It didn’t. At that point, I educated myself on how to properly wash cloth diapers and found that cloth diaper detergent wasn’t just a marketing technique. Since these detergents are free of the additives that often clog

Prepping Cloth Diapers

Let’s set the record straight — there is NO cream, lotion or oil that is safe to use on bumGenius, Flip or Econobum diapers. Despite what you see, hear or read, we ALWAYS recommend using a barrier with any cream or lotion. A lot of people think that because something says its cloth diaper safe (sorry, coconut oil!) you do not need to use a barrier.  This is not true and will void your warranty because these products can cause issues such as leaks, odors, and unnecessary wear and tear. So why does this happen? Creams, oils, and lotions are designed to coat

Review: bumGenius Laundry Detergent
September 18, 2014 8:14 pm | by

I’m a working mama of 3 kids, and I’ll admit, I often don’t do things the “easy” way. I love to cook from scratch, I clean incessantly, and I research almost every product before making a purchase. So there are times I just need something to be simple. And using cloth diapers is simple! But with it comes a whole slew of techniques on how to clean them: spraying, swishing, soaking, sunning, etc. I don’t have time for all that! I do laundry seemingly around-the-clock as it is. I just want something that works the first time; something that I don’t

Cloth 101: Washing Cloth Diapers, A Look at the Last 10 Years
May 18, 2014 11:12 am | by

I recently read a post in a forum from a cloth diapering mom complaining that her cloth diapers weren’t clean.  Her friend had told her to use a sprinkle of detergent when washing her cloth diapers.  She was frustrated because the amount of detergent she was using wasn’t working.  As I read the responses, I realized that many of the people writing had profiles that were relatively new and were probably unaware of the history of washing recommendations in the cloth diaper industry.  This post grew out of a desire to bring some clarity to that history. The “tiny little
