Warehouse Roulette – A Tree! A Tree? A Tree…
March 2, 2012 12:47 am | by

I’ve been bugged by Jenn and others to write posts on the blog for a long time, but I didn’t want to have to figure out what to write about while staying somewhat on topic. So the obvious solution was to write about random things in the warehouse. Warehouse roulette! To make it fun and very random, I put all of the warehouse locations in a box, mixed it up and drew a location.

So yes, this week I drew a tree. I was so close to drawing an empty shelf, but instead, I ended up with the tree. If I draw an empty shelf, I get to write about anything, which could be a fun trippy trip. C’mon empty shelf!

Back to the tree. I drew the Kidsonroof Totem Tree. It’s basically a 3D puzzle that looks like a tree. But it’s not really a puzzle, it’s more like a sandwich. You put it together and it ends up looking like a tree.  It actually looks pretty cool and is a lot bigger than you would expect it to be. We had a couple of them set up in our St. Louis West County store. The Christmas tree version looks Christmas-y (with a psychedelic reindeer!) and you can hang real ornaments on it to give the tree some bling and pop.

Looking around the rest of the box shows some real potential for this type of puzzle. Check out at the spider and dragonfly! The spider would be fun to have on my desk, or hanging on the monitor. Better yet, the spider could be eating the dragonfly, in the tree on my desk! Then GI Joe would be parachuting down from the ceiling, guns blazing! Let go of Willownette! AAAAAAAHHHHH bam bam bam bam bam! But the spider has spidy senses and can dodge the gunfire. Bringing the battle to ground level. GI Joe takes cover behind the iMac stand while the spider tries an end-around the mouse. Bam! Bam! Bam! Click! Jammed! Zing! Zing! Zing! The spider infects the mouse and they have GI Joe cornered. Does he try to slide between the desk and the wall and risk getting stuck? Is it better to make a run for it? Run for it! As GI Joe makes a break for it, the dragon fly frees herself from the web, swoops down and carries GI Joe to the top of the file cabinet, away from the nasty spider and saves the day. Whew!

The warning label says to keep flame away, which is probably a good thing, since it’s made out of “sturdy recycled cardboard”. It would be pretty exciting to strap some fireworks on it though. Stick some fountains on the ends of the branches and light them all at the same time with a brick of Saturn Missles underneath.  Oh Yeah! Crazy 3D fountain sparks!

Hold on… someone’s talking into my earpiece. Oh… right. This is supposed to be a children’s toy. Don’t strap fireworks on it. This is a “Beautiful tree of life”. “With 2 birds, a birdhouse, an owl and mushrooms growing on the tree trunk”. With GI Joe hiding behind the trunk. Shhhh….
