We went to a butterfly house. The kids got to learn about butterflies native to our area. They also got to feed them and had a scavenger hunt to which they then received prizes for finding everything. It was really neat experience. The property also had a cute little playground and I took lots of pictures.

We went to the zoo for the first time after my son was more interactive with his surroundings, and the look of amazement and joy on his face in response to seeing the different animals was hard to describe!

We’re just about to go on “vacation” to see family, but we did go to a convention earlier this summer! What made it memorable was just being away from home for so long for the first time with a baby! It changes everything.

We love to go to museum. Not only is is educational but we make it fun. I will research the museum to find out what types of exhibits they have and then make games out of them. My kids love playing along not realizing they are learning along the way.

I took all 3 kids (ages 4.5, 2.5 and 15 mo) and a dog to the beach by myself a few days ago. It was memorable because there was almost no wind and the water was relatively warm for where we live. The kids had so much fun rolling in the sand and the pure joy was contagious!

This summer, our family of three got to visit home in Alabama (we’re stationed in Kansas), and were able to announce our new pregnancy to the family while we were there! We had just found out two days before we left on our trip, and were so excited to share the news that our one year old would be having a little brother or sister. It was also memorable because that visit will most likely be my husband’s last before his upcoming deployment.

Really, the only getaway we’ve been able to take this summer was up to our baby son’s grave for his birthday. We haven’t done much this summer since the baby is only 5mo and I’m wary of going on big outings with her and my 6yr old. We did go on a nearly 2 hour hike recently. It was really fun to see my older daughter get excited about nature as she led the way on the trails. The little one nursed and fell asleep in the carrier. It was so relaxing and was a great way to spend our afternoon.

Living in Austin TX the summers are quite hot, but my husband and I still consider outdoor play to be extremely valuable and we like to take our son to parks around town. Thankfully many parks in Austin have splash pad areas available for kids to run around in and cool off. During this one particular outing we had not planned ahead in bringing swim attire, however, we decided that our son had not shown a lot of interest in the splash pad areas and that we would be fine – (famous last words).

In a half seconds time our 20 month old son is racing for the single, water-spraying dolphin in the park… fully-clothed… arms pulled back… a huge smile on his face… the water sprays on his toddler belly and he is so happy! My worries and concern about a lack of swim clothes or even spare clothes (none in the diaper bag) melt away and my husband and I laugh as we take a seat on the nearby wall to let him run around in the water. Sometimes all you really need is a happy baby and a dry diaper.

One of our most frequent and best loved summer outings involves taking a picnic there, playing outside for a while, and then cooling off with some books and games in the library. We went for a bike ride and stopped for a picnic lunch. It was the best because all the family was there!

My family and I go camping every summer. It is exhausting, but is also a great time to get away, get very dirty, and be active!

Most memorable to me this year has been my baby’s first visit to the river. She went bravely in all the way with daddy and we’ve been back many times since.

We went to the zoo and got to see our toddler connect PICTURES of animals to REAL wild animals in the zoo! Baby elephant noises are the best!

We went to see a big fireworks display and my son stayed awake for them for the first time. He loved it!

Not a typical summer activity, but my husband and I had a much needed date night to an orchestral event. It was quite the experience. I’ve never been to the orchestra before!

I would have to say camping at front tier town this summer with my favorite experience! To be able to sit around a fire and roast s’mores and sing songs with my family! Best memory yet!
