Thursday Giveaway: 4.0 Reasons to Try Cloth Diapers
November 12, 2014 7:09 pm | by
bumGenius-4-os-sassy3For many parents, choosing to cloth diaper your baby can be a big decision. It takes research (the amount of options can be intimidating). It takes willpower (just look at all those limited edition prints you have to resist). And it takes time and energy (those cloth diapers aren’t going to wash themselves, you know, but we can all dream).

With that being said, cloth diapers are worth it. Always. If you don’t believe it, we’ll give you 4.0 reasons to! Here’s why you SHOULD use cloth diapers:
  • They’re better for the environment! ONE (yes, one) baby can generate a ton of waste just by using disposables. To top it off, one disposable diaper can take up to 500 years to decompose.
  • They save you money. Disposables can cost you more than $1,000 a year from birth to potty training!
  • They’re natural and free of harmful ingredients. Don’t like the thought of dioxin touching your baby’s skin? Try cloth diapers.
  • They’re adorable! Cloth diapers have come a long way since pins and prefolds. Instead, they’re sleek, fashionable and available in popular colors!
That had to convince you to give cloth diapers a try, right? If it didn’t, the thought of trying cloth diapers for FREE will. Two people will win two bumGenius 4.0s in the solid color and closure of their choice in this week’s giveaway. To enter, tell us four reasons why you use (or want to use) cloth diapers.

The bumGenius 4.0 is our best-selling cloth diaper, and is just as easy to use as disposables. It’s feature a simple design and has been recommended by parents everywhere!

The four reasons I will be using cloth diapers on my first baby (due in 2 weeks!) are:
    1. Better for his skin- if he has sensitive skin, like me, then cloth diapers will be great
    2. helping the environment- do my part to be nicer to the environment so he can enjoy it later in life
    3. save money- single income family here, and we are trying to save money!
    4. investment- we can reuse them or sell them after we are done!

    Thank you!

Reason we decided to cloth diaper
    1. To save money ( although I’m not sure we’re doing so well on that since Bumgenius keeps releasing new prints! I guess I’ll have saved money if I can bring myself to sell them off once my kids are out of diapers)
    2. I hate chemical smell of disposables
    3. I hate the idea of generating that much garbage, both for environment and having to deal with in the house / taking it out each week.
    4. I don’t ever want to feel pressured to keep my baby in a wet diaper longer so as ‘not to waste the diaper’
…oh and cloth is SO much CUTER!

I use cloth for many reasons!
1.) It’s better for he environment. My husband and I are big supporters in going green and cloth diapering was a logical first step.
2.) My son breaks out when using disposable diapers. I would rather not have all those chemicals on his skin.
3.) Cloth diapers are so CUTE. I’m in love with all the designs, especially those limited edition diapers that bumGenius offers.
4.) Community. Cloth diapering has brought me so close with many moms who think the way I do, parent the way I do, value what I value, and I’ve made some good friends.

We currently cloth diaper. We originally cloth diapered because my son had horrible reactions to disposable diapers. It didn’t matter what brand we used the poor guy was always red and rashy. My other reasons are cost savings between using disposables versus cloth and that cloth diapers are way too cute!

  • Claire Rheinheimer said...

    I use cloth because :
    1. My daughter doesn’t poop up the back of them like she did in disposables.
    2. They are adorable!
    3. We would save lots of money if I ever stopped buying them- and we will recoup a lot of that when I eventually sell them.

So when I first found out I was pregnant I knew I wanted to CD because I knew I’d be able to save a lot of money on laundering since I live in military housing. Second was because I could save money in general and not have to buy disposables every month. Then the third reason came out as I started building my stash, they are stinking ADORABLE! Then the fourth reason is because it is really fun to buy these diapers/receive fluff mail/and oddly enough, washing them is so fun! It is like a science experiment!

Our fourth baby is due next month and I want to cloth diaper him. As I look back over the last seven years of having other kids in diapers, the money and inconvenience of disposables really adds up. My reasons for wanting to use cloth diapers on him are as follows:
    1. Since my first daughter was born, disposable diaper manufacturers have reduced both the quality and number of diapers in the packages while continually raising the price. This is unacceptable.
    2. This pregnancy has, by far, been my healthiest and best pregnancy. I do not want to start exposing him to a bunch of chemicals as soon as he is born after protecting him in the womb.
    3. I feel less overwhelmed by the choice to cloth diaper this time around. I am a more confident mother and will hopefully only have him in diapers as his older sister is potty training now.
    4. Over time, the price is less and I am more conscious of the environmental impact of using the disposables. I do not want to waste any more money on filling the world with urine and fecal soaked trash.

  • Stacy Renee said...

I’m due with my first little one in less than a month and I want and plan to cloth diaper for many reasons. For one, it’s important to me to avoid excess chemicals. I want to cloth diaper for environmental reasons, including not filling up landfills with disposables that will take hundreds of years to break down. I don’t want to put money in the pockets of giant corporations that don’t care about babies. And cloth diapering is much cheaper, healthier, and all around the better choice! 🙂

    1) The savings. Cloth is so much cheaper than disposable!
    2) The fact that cloth diapers can grow with baby, meaning that I don’t have to constantly worry about the hassle of buying new diapers every week.
    3) The chemicals in disposable diapers. I really don’t want that touching my baby’s skin.
    4) The long-lasting aspects – the idea that some diapers may last through more than one child is very appealing.

I use cloth diapers for economical, environmental, style, and social (let’s face it, we’ve all made friends when seeing another baby in cloth diapers!) reasons 🙂

I’ve borrowed diapers, loaned out diapers, passed down diapers from kid to kid — saved a ton of money — saved a ton of landfill space — AND my kids have looked good doing it!

I have twin 12 yr old girls, a 9 yr old son, and a 5 month old baby girl. This is my first time using cloth and I love it. My four reasons for using cloth this time around are to avoid chemicals, save money, create less waste, look cute while being “green.” One of my twins would get a severe rash/burn from disposables so I switched brands many times trying to find a solution. I wish I would have known back then that cloth would have solved that problem and was as easy to use as it is. This new baby also has sensitive skin but doesn’t get rashes while wearing cloth diapers. I use prefolds and fitted from Green Mountain Diapers and Bummis, Flip covers, and a few a friend made for me. As of this moment though she has outgrown the others and is only using the two Flip OS h&l covers we have that I ordered during the BOGO (wish I could have ordered more). Btw, snaps are cool but I love hook and loop… maybe because I’m used to it from disposables. Makes it easier to get a perfect fit and less cumbersome for Dada and anyone who has offered to change her diaper.
